Absolutely loved my time here and in oxford! Great staff, great location and lots of fun people to meet. Would definitely recommend this hostel!

Standard, decent hostel: beds with comfortable mattresses but too short (bunkbeds) with pillows as substantial as a tissue, good clean hot showers, good clean toilets (if very cramped), good communal space. I liked the insistence on silence in/near the rooms after a certain time.

There seemed to be a lot of rules, but the focus was on client safety so that's a good thing. They ran out of breakfast food and it wasn't even close to the end of breakfast time. My room was a mess! There were people's things all over the floor and in the walkway. Poor air circulation in the room with a lot of bodies in there making it smelly and hot at night.

This is by far the best hostel in the UK! It l has recently been done up up the new splash of paint in the hallway and dorms, giving the place a bright and cheerful glow and the snazzy modern kitchen with free tea and coffee served all of my culinary needs. The bathrooms are very clean and the showers and wonderfully hot. The staff are warm, welcoming and super helpful. The pub crawl was fab with pre-drinks at the hostel bar beforehand and free entry to a club afterwards! This place is fab!

Beds can be a bit squeaky, but hot showers and friendly staff are great.

No Oxford maps, staff read from script don't offer help. Decor old, dark, outdated, dark grey bathrooms. Quiet time early in evening but no probs with shouting at 7am, no party here. Laundry service too long for a backpackers, if you cant be bothered put in a machine , we can was our own stuff faster. No atmosphere, expensive.

Owner Comment (Hide)
We are sorry to hear you missed the party nights. Sunday is normally quiet as everybody has partied on the Friday and Saturday nights. We offer laundry service, but as we have many guests this is offered over a 24hr period as we have to do bed linen, unless in emergencies. If you felt the 4 bed female dorm was expensive maybe consider staying in the 18 bed dorm next time as we offer a variety of accommodation options.

The front door is key-code and had to ring up via buzzer, so that was nice. Also glad that the doorway is lighted at night. Convenient location near the rail station and Gloucester Green bus lot, but still walkable into City Centre and university locations. Reasonably priced. Secure codes to rooms as well. Clean rooms, very comfortable beds. Issues with lockers, so if that is a priority you might not want to stay here. Best wifi and hottest shower at any hostel I've stayed at. Okay breakfast.

i stayed in this hostel a few years ago, and the hostel staff was a lot more friendly and the hostel was so much cleaner too ! the toilets and showers are disgusting !

Thank you for the feedback. As we have a newly renovated kitchen, joining common room and bathrooms, we find it interesting you found the hostel much cleaner a few years ago when everything was in dire need of renovating. The volunteers are all travelers and are keen to meet new people and share stories. Its unfortunate you found this was not the case.

Good hostel to stay, good rooms for the price. The only inconvenience I had was with the shower cabins, they could be more private than it is.

I stayed one night, I had bad experience. No lockers in rooms; plug points are not easily reachable. No space at all in the fridge for short stayers. No staff between 11 pm and 8.00am. They lock the kitchen at 10.30, so if you are working in the morning or have to leave before 8.00 am you cant even make a coffee. Actually I left all by food in the fridge as the kitchen is locked. May be good for long stayers but definitely not for short stayers.

Owner Comment (Hide)
All guests that check in are made aware of all procedures regarding kitchen and reception times. In the mornings the kitchen is open from 07H00 for guests that need to leave earlier, so they can have access to the teas and coffees. We clearly advertise the reception hours, and ask if guests need anything they approach the reception before the closing times. AS we were busy during the time you were here, it meant that fridge space was limited, but ample space for short stayers.

The hostel was ideally located for the station, and a short walk to the centre of town, once inside the hostel all the noises of traffic & a club next door can not be heard. The staff friendly. There is a strict "silence-policy" in the corridors & bedrooms, which is good. A complimentary breakfast was served. A bar and game facilities are available.

ther was lack of place to put clothes , just on the frame of the bed .For one night visitors no major problem , for longer stayed , could be great discomfort.

The environment was nice, I especially enjoyed the bright colours. However, the locks on the doors were tricky to work, and one of the residents (who claimed that he worked in the hostel) refused to lock the doors when he left because he "could never remember the code". This made the hostel feel slightly less safe. Also, one of the electrical sockets fell out of the wall, which is a fire hazard. Overall, it was a good stay though. The breakfast was sufficient and the staff were very helpful.
