My flight arrived much later than I expected and I didn't get in until late, but Rick kindly stayed up to wait for me. All of the staff were great, I was only there for 2 days but my second morning I was about to head out to stroll and the nice guy at the desk (didn't catch his name) suggested I wait for the board of activities to go up, and I ended up going on a really great walking tour (Historic Market Street). They have a deal w. one of the bike shops, go for it!

have been to a fair few hostels in Europe and elsewhere, but this genuinely was the best one I've ever stayed in. great and easy location, well stocked kitchen and rooms, all the usual extras like free wi-fi and more and amazing staff. the whole way the common area is set out means its very easy to get on with and meet people, found it great as a solo traveller. small capacity means its not too crowded, gives a real laid back vibe. this rating is well and truly deserved!

After 2 weeks spent alone on the road, it was really nice to arrive in this hostel, where I spent the night talking to a lot of various residents in a very good atmosphere.

I've been to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji and stayed in many hostels. But this one was the best! :) I had a very nice and warm welcome at the hostel. They gave me great help with all the things to do in San Fransisco and in the evening I didn't have to go out because it was very nice at the hostel, all were cooking, singing and talking. I'll come back here, soon :)

Owner Comment (Show)
Hi Alberto, We have communicated by email, but I wanted to respond to your concerns here as well. I'm sorry you were not happy with the price you paid for your one night at our hostel. I have checked with Hostelworld and confirmed you were quoted a total of $29.50 for your one night stay. At check-in you paid $26.55 which is the correct amount. There were no additional charges and you have confirmed the accounting was correct in our email exchange. It's true, that for a brief period before the peak season our overnight cost is slightly higher on weekends. However, during the Summer time we do not charge extra for weekends. We checked with Clíona Kissane at Hostelworld and she said, "Yes it is perfectly acceptable for you to have different rates at the weekend than during the week, most hostels apply this pricing to their beds." I'm sorry the pricing was not what you expected. Darren - Owner, Pacific Tradewinds Hostel

My schedule did not allow me to spend much time here, but I really wish I was able to spend more. Any down time that I had was filled with meeting new people, making new friends. The atmosphere encourages an open and familial atmosphere that seems to spread and grow. I simply loved it.

cramped bedrooms (particularly the 6 bed dorms) and really it is one big dormitory (with thin divides) rather than separate rooms. Dance round eachother in the tiny kitchen. Showers are warm rather than hot. Free breakfast is very low quality stuff. Churlish to charge an extra $3 at weekends. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful staff and lots of them. 2 very fast big screen macs for all to use without charge. Nice stay at expensive, mediocre city hostel, made good by the attitude of the staff.

GLORIOUS HOSTEL! One of the best I've stayed in. Staff are very welcoming and friendly, & the place feels like it has a good community kinda vibe without being cliquey- a hard line to tread! It really feels like they have planned out the whole place very thoughtfully- so many little details that just work well! Love the constant tunes in reception too. Special shoutout goes to Avi for waiting up for me when I arrived at 2:30am.
