Very Spartanian conditions in the room (quite cold, the sink without a plug, little space for any movements ), extremely cold in the showers (in the corridors). It might be quite pleasant in summer, but in winter it is really a challange. On the other hand the staff and the atmosphere they created were perfect.

Dear Guest, Thanks for the compliments on our staff and the good atmosphere in our hostel. Sorry you found it a little cold, you should have told us - we have several electric heaters we can give guetss for their rooms for extra heat in winer. That being said - you did stay here during the coldest week of the year in Derry. I'll look into the situation of no plug in the sink in your room. Sorry about that. Again If you had told us we could have replaced it there and then. Looking forward to welcoming you again, youre right - its especially great in summer. Happy Travels Stephen McPhilemy Owner/Manager

Should try to repair the hot water in the en suite room.

I spent almost 2 weeks in the hostel, I found it clean, good value for money and found the staff very friendly and accommodating. There was a very homely feel about the place and the staff make you feel as if you are part of the family. Really enjoyed my stay and as I am a regular visitor to Derry I will use this hostel again.

Really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. It was clean, and located within walking distance of everything. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The common room was cosy and welcoming, and with breakfast included and HOT water, this hostel was great value for money. I would definietly recommend Paddy's Derry to other travellers.

Thanks for the good remarks. But I must stress to hostelworld.com readers that there WAS heating in the room. It just obviously wasnt warm enough for you, you should have told us and we would have given you one of our many electric heaters for extra heat.... we have heat every hour in every room and a blazing fire in the common room all day. You know this of course... I wish travellers would be careful with how they word their reviews - "no heat in the room" is misleading and simply not true. ill show you my heating bill if you like.... Anyway, thanks for the other nice comments and thanks for staying with us. Happy Travels Steve McPhilemy Owner

This hostel was grand! It was very clean and had a great atmosphere. The staff was very helpful in getting us to where we needed to be considering we were unfamiliar with the city. I will definitely recommend this hostel to people if they travel to Derry!

The staff was extremely welcoming and helped us out a lot. Although we were a little unsure of what we were going to do while we were there, they helped us plan out our whole trip, and even helped us out by giving us a free ride to one of the trips were were going to. The only thing that was difficult was that we were unsure of where the hostel was because there is no sign, and it sort of blends in. Overall, this was a great stay in a great hostel.

I had a great stay here at Paddys Palace. The staff were friendly, fun and very willing to help. They gave me ideas on what to do and see and took me out with them to the local pub Peadar O'Donnells which was a lot of fun! The hostel had everything I wanted for a comfortable stay with a few bonuses including a cozy fire in the lounge which gave the place a nice, chilled vibe. Would definately reccomend it and would stay here again!

If all hostels were this good travelling would be alot easier and more enjoyable. The hostel was in a great location near the city but far enough away that it was quiet. The rooms, common areas and bathrooms were basic but big enough and always clean. They also provide all the little things that alot of hostels forget about like free breakfast, tea and coffee and hand soap. However the best thing by far was the friendly staff, service and free trips between their hostels.

Lovely staff but was absolutely appalled to find filthy duvet on the bed. Luckily we had our own blankets with us. I've never seen a duvet look that disgustingly dirty before. Between that and a bad experience with staff in Paddy's Palace in Belfast I will never stay in a Paddy's Palace anywhere again.

Dear Guest Sorry to hear about this, I cant explain it. You didnt report it to staff at the time which would have helped because then I'd know why it happened. Regarding Paddys palace, belfast, its nothing to do with us, a completely different hostel

Hi Brooklyn Sorry you had this experience, we were in the middle of our renovations when you arrived and you're right, things were a wee bit chaotic. We'd love to give you a free trip to make up for this next time you're in Derry. Renovations are finished now and our hostle is clean and organised once more. Happy travels Stephen McPhilemy Owner

Very welcoming, though the hostel was undergoing a refurbishment which made things a bit difficult to organise. Not helped by travellers who did not understand what 'mixed dorm' means! I settled in the annexe, which was lovely and very quiet, if a bit lonely. Staff very informative about places to go, what to see and good value eating and drinking. Will definitely visit again, especially if I can have room 13!
