Really quaint and quirky hostel, very small and homely. Had a good group of people which made the difference. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Only had 2 small showers but considering the hostel caters to a max of 24 people wasn't too bad, although I did have to wait on a number of occasion. Bit of a walk to the Gion District and the train station but close to a bus route. Nice place.

Everything was very nice except (oddly) someone took my toothbrush from the public sink. Not sure what that was about.

Staff were very rude when it came to settling our bill. Enjoyed the place but experience was tarnished by this incident. Sadly!

A magical place! ♡♡♡ Had an eccentric vibe, with a unique fashionable style, aesthetically furnished with beautiful vintage furniture and decorations! The whole place comes to life especially at night with pretty fairy lights! The staff were so friendly and fun to hang around with, and even took me to the Gion festival!^^ The beds were very comfortable, they provided free towels and have their own cozy bar from 8pm~ I would love to go back as much as I can in the future!!! Awesome location and fun place. Staff are so helpful. Great shower. Basics and essentials are all provided - loved the Aesop soap! Quirky, friendly atmosphere. Would stay there again for sure!

Trouble dropping off my bag, and then trouble checking in. There doesn't seem to be a way into the building unless you know the code prior, even when I came back during check in time there were still no staff present. Frustrating. Apart from that the hostel was fine.

It might not be everyone's cup of tea. But what it lacks in electronic bidets and modern hostel chic it makes up ample in quirky charm and an understated chilled out atmosphere; such as the staff/dj playing some nice minimal tech during bar hours and the various paintings adorning the communal areas. If Jun'ichiro Tanizaki ran a hostel, i would imagine it might be something like this.

Overall, amazing. Such a quirky fun place to stay. Couldn't ask for more and will be back. Only negative was disrespectful talking guests late one night but that's no fault of Pan and Circus. Great experience!

Unique hostel experience, in a really good way! Staff was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable. I would appreciate more clarity on the check-in process though; there was no one in the hostel when we came to check in in the middle of the afternoon. Otherwise great experience, would definitely recommend.

Nice place to stay and closed to everything. The bus stop just in front of the Hostel. Staff are friendly. Good place for sleep at night and travelling for the whole day. Only one comment is should have Staff stand by during day time. I was arrived at noon and found nobody with the door shut. i little lost that time, since it was our first time in Kyoto.

There is only one shower and it's kind of advised to use the public baths nearby.

Pan and circus is a very special place that becomes home as soon as you arrive - the location is also perfect!!! Do not expect to be a booking reference number at Pan and Circus, you're a guest and part of the Pan and Circus family :) I was even invited to a barbecue at the owners' home for a traditional Japanese meal. The staff are incredibly hospitable and sensitive to your every need and I honestly could not hold this hostel in higher regard. Thank you Toshi, Natsumi, Jitsuka and Hikari!!!

Really fun little hostel in a great location. Has all the basic facilities, and a much better kitchen than I saw anywhere else I stayed in Japan. The bar downstairs is lively and the staff are friendly and helpful. Also in a good location with the bus stop just outside and in walking distance to a lot of the sights of Kyoto.

An unusual hostel, but it works! It's a bit of a quirky place, with retro pictures and furniture, but the staff are friendly and we enjoyed our one night stay.
