The hostel was in a great location,3 mins to shops, close to the four mile beach. They had free bike hire, and couches were great to lye on when just taking it easy. However it seemed there was a big drug influence there which I didn't really like, you could smell it all the time, and I even heard the staff talking about selling stuff to backpackers etc. So I suppose it was a very chilled out place. It was very good for entertainment they had something like bands and trivia each night of the wk.
I had four very nice days at Parrotfish Lodge, the atmosphere is relaxed and it's easy to meet people. The room was ok, the electricity is off from 10AM to 5PM but at the end it didn't bothered me. I would raise only two negative points : the dirt and the disgusting smell of the fridges and the fact that the "15$ transfert" turns to 30$ when you go back to Cairns... Anyway, I would really recommend Parrotfish for its nice atmosphere and location next to the outstanding beach of Port Douglas !
Barthroom facilities were run down in terms of locks broken, taps broken. No dry place in the bathrooms for getting changed. Door to bedroom did not function properly. We were told a 7:30am breakfast however no movement from staff until 8am. Initally given a room with not enough beds for the number of guest which was quickly changed.

I really liked the Parrotfish! The staff is really friendly and helpful, the rooms are big, there is a really nice atmosphere, it's close to town....and the breakfast fruit salad is super tasty!! The only thing i really disliked was the state of the kitchen, which was really dirty and messy, although it was probably due more to the other guests' inability to do their dishes rather than the hostel's cleanliness policy. So, overall, great hostel, would definitely stay here again!
