staff deserves 110%! really nice hostel, with free kayaks and it's own piece of the beach where you can jump in whenever you want. very good price for otherwise expensive Caye Caulker

Really nice volunteers and the hostel is kept very clean, but be forewarned: there are 80+ cats and 5 dogs on premises. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxed, but if you're looking for an upbeat beach party scene, you will be disappointed. Great place to unwind though.

I loved this hostel. As specified you need to like cats and dogs to stay here but I love what the hostel is about and the volunteers who stay there more permanently are super friendly. I loved th feeling of coming home when I close he hate and give on of th dogs a scratch under the chin before going inside to greet everyone. Definitely recommended :) there are lockers and kayaks.

Felt really welcome by the guys working and staying there. Really up beat and was a pleasure chatting to everyone. Use of the kayaks was awesome, lots of advice of where to go and general knowledge of the island. Felt quite Awkward coming in after 10pm, but they do make it clear that it's the time things go quiet.

The hostel is clean and tidy. Located in town close to the water-taxi, shops and restaurants. The cats and dogs make it very lovely to stay there (if you like them). Enough showers and bathrooms (all clean, no hot water) sheets and kitchen. That said the hostel has downsides. No lock on the front-door or to the doors of dorm-rooms. There are dogs on the premise, of course, but they didn't bark when I arrived. Wifi is stable bit slow.

Hostel was very clean and simple. There's a wonderful little double-decker jetty to sit on and enjoy the sun and sunset. You can also take out one of their kayaks on the water (no fee, simply on a donation basis). Loved my stay, and would do t again!

This hostel is a hidden gem in Caye Caulker! Situated on te west coast of the island, with a small private beach, the backpackers enjoy an access to the water. There are kayaks to be used for free, and a very nice two stories deck to enjoy every sunset during your stay. Plus the owner is a great person, and the dogs and cats are just awesome!

Madi is a wonderful host and has established a safe and peaceful living facility in Caye Caulker. The location of the hostel is absolutely stunning, especially during sunset! The rooms, kitchen, yard, and bathrooms are very clean and tidy. She provides sheets and lockers for her guests making everyone feeling welcomed. The cats and dogs are super friendly and cute! We were super pleased with our stay and plan on visiting again. Stay at Pause if you are in Caye Caulker! You will not regret it!

What Madi is doing is admirable and I want to continue to support her work with the cats and dogs. I loved my time there and would definitely choose it again. The private dock is great and you can see rays, seahorses and other fish from there. There are kayaks available for use with donation. The rooms, showers, bathrooms and kitchen are all very clean. The cats and dogs are all friendly and adorable. Madi composts and recycles which is great for the environment.

Very simple, very quite. You'll get more that what you paid. Staff are very polite and always concerned about your needs. I had a wonderful time.

A really nice place to stay if you like quiet hostels and animals. The 4 bed dorm was fine for our stay - nice clean sheets and really friendly owner. The hostel has its own mini 'beach' on the waters edge which you can lounge by or kayak in - showers are cold but it's quite hot on the island so that's not an issue. Dogs and cats wander freely in the hostel yard so you need to be comfortable with animals and respectful to the hostel as it is also an animal shelter. Good place to stay :)

Thank you for a nice stay on Cay Caulker!

We stayed in the private room that was apartment style. The room itself wasn't bad. And the person who runs the hostel was away at the time. My main concern was the way the animals were kept. There are approximately 50 cats who stay in cages all day. These cages are dark, small and smell terrible. For the two days we were there, none of the dogs were walked. And one dog is tied up all day because it runs away.

I booked 3 nights & stayed for 6! When you come in knowing this is a cat sanctuary run by a woman who has a whole lot of good in her heart, then you can leave any hotel/resort accomdation expectations on the shelf & truly enjoy yourself. Tucked away on the quiet side of the island, free use of kayaks, free wifi (its all slow on the island), quiet itself, but you can come and go as you please. Everyone here is respectful, laid back, & of course all cat lovers! I would absolutely stay here again!

Madi was an excellent hostess-friendly and helpful. There are some very sweet dogs and cats on the grounds that love your attention, if offered. Adopting one to take home to the U.S. seemed like a very easy process. The property is kept tidy and clean. The two level dock and all of the outdoor seating was perfect. Having kayaks to use was just fantastic. Madi takes care to recycle and has a spot for organic food waste/compost. We would definitely stay at Pause again!
