Bit disappointed to arrive at this hostel to find previous occupants still had there gear in the room. It felt a bit insecure. Sheets and pillow cases looked like they had not been changed either but this could be that cleaner may not have known that new people were coming in. Room was nice and big and facilities were great.

An interesting hostel . Not new, but full of character and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Common room a bit crowded in the evenings while I was staying but everyone seemed considerate. The room I had was inside (no window) so a bit ordinary, but clean. Overall a good place for budget travellers to stay at, close to downtown Dunedin. Derek (NZ)

It was great. The room looked like in a hotel, not in a hostel. No noise from the street was coming to our room. Great value. The only negative point is that we could not find any recycling bins. This was a big surprise. In all other backpackers were recycling bins.

Ok...Front desk staff complaining about guests and guest service in the common kitchen in front of guests was just bad hospo...come on. Mattresses smelled funky. Too bad though, a few things sorted out and it'd be a real nice property. We wont be back to find out if it improves

No window to my room and it was tiny. Smoker desk too noisy especially as it was in front of my room. Lucky they have to keep quiet after midnight.

Nothing electrionic that we plugged in the room worked, neither did the heater! Only stayed one night so did not use kitchen or lounge however looked to be OK. A bit run down and funny smell throughout it..Staff were nice but everything seemed dated. Substantial walk from the heart of Dunedin.

Owner Comment (Show)
Just above the electric plugs is a safety switch which activates all the plugs in the room, julia obviously missed this. Interesting that Julias comments are so different from our other customers that have nothing but very complimentary things to say about our hostel. The walk to the centre of town is only 5 minutes walk, not up big hills like some other hostels in Dunedin. The smell in the hostel is lavender! Very disappointed to get such a low rating which has dropped us 4 points. Other customers don't understand why our rating is so low!

very dirty. Toilets not cleaned regularly. The sheets on one of our beds had blood stains, also the hostel did not change doona covers after the last person who slept there and no mattress protectors. The staff were a little creepy but good location and the common areas were decent.

Dorm room was a bit cold. Comfortable bed, large well-equipped kitchen, nice lounge. Free internet/wifi very welcome but bandwidth throttled in the evening, Clean bathrooms. Lockers in the dorm rooms would be good.

Great hostel, very friendly and free internet was a major bonus! Some confusion over availability of room keys meant we didn't actually get one(!) and headsets for skype were promised but seemingly not found. This may have been down to simple miscommunication though. All in all a very good stay! :)

they are doing the place up for the world cup, will be newly painted...they could also do with new mattresses and beds as they are all thin and very creaky! otherwise, cool place, lovely lounge and kitchen!

Owner Comment (Show)
Some old thin matresses have been replaced, thanks for reminding me.
