I didn't enjoy my stay. My room (no. 13) was so badly positioned I should not have paid full price. 3 out of 4 walls were to hallways, and situated between the kitchen, lounge, bathrooms and laundry, almost everyone staying there passed my room, making it very noisy. There are signs asking for no noise after 10:30 but people take no notice, banging pots in the kitchen at that time and using the washing machines very late. Free internet was good but no good if you want/need rest + early night!!

It was simply awful. Our room consisted of a bunk bed and rubbish bin. That were all. I would guess that or room were smaller than a prison cell. Not that fun and we didn´t have any curtains and we lived next to the smokers´ deck which was made our room less private. The wors thing however was that the sheets probably hadn´t been washed for quite a while. Nothing I would recomend

The facilities were not enough for all the people, but the atmosphere is really good.

My room was like a wee cell and close to the kitchen area which was noisy till very late on my first night there. Only had a light in the room , TV was not going neither were the electric plugs. Area under bed had not been vaccumed. A B and B would have been better value!

Nice place. Close to the Octagon. Clean. Very cheap for a single room. I would definitely stay here again.

The dorm rooms could use a fresh coat of paint-they look dingy and old. The kitchen is a little small. The location is great and the staff are very friendly.

Bit disappointed to arrive at this hostel to find previous occupants still had there gear in the room. It felt a bit insecure. Sheets and pillow cases looked like they had not been changed either but this could be that cleaner may not have known that new people were coming in. Room was nice and big and facilities were great.

Pennys is an ok backpackers. I would imagine it is good value for money in Dunedin (compared to the other backpackers you can stay at). Close enough to town to walk. Parking good. Kitchen a little on the small/cramped side but they keep it clean.

An interesting hostel . Not new, but full of character and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Common room a bit crowded in the evenings while I was staying but everyone seemed considerate. The room I had was inside (no window) so a bit ordinary, but clean. Overall a good place for budget travellers to stay at, close to downtown Dunedin. Derek (NZ)

It was great. The room looked like in a hotel, not in a hostel. No noise from the street was coming to our room. Great value. The only negative point is that we could not find any recycling bins. This was a big surprise. In all other backpackers were recycling bins.

Ok...Front desk staff complaining about guests and guest service in the common kitchen in front of guests was just bad hospo...come on. Mattresses smelled funky. Too bad though, a few things sorted out and it'd be a real nice property. We wont be back to find out if it improves

No window to my room and it was tiny. Smoker desk too noisy especially as it was in front of my room. Lucky they have to keep quiet after midnight.
