We recently stayed at Pensao Royal for 4 nights, and can't say enough good things about this hotel and its amazing owner, Paola. It is an excellent location, with easy access to the Baixa-Chiado subway station and a quick walk to all main attractions. It is very nicely maintained - the decoration was one-of-a-kind! And most importantly, Paola is an incredible resource who helps you make the most of your trip in Lisbon. Highly recommended.

This was a well-run bed and breakfast with the very helpful and congenial host, Paola. She was always there to provide us with information about the city, such as good value restaurants. The facilities were basic but our room was clean, bright and met our needs.

We had a great time! Right in the heart of Lisbon, great breakfast, great environment, nice and colourful rooms, which were cleaned up every day. Most of all though, our dear Paola helped us with everything we wanted so that we could get to know Lisbon and Portugal the best way possible. Thank you Paola!! Possible downside for some (that should be overcompensated by far by the upsides though): there is no elevator in the building and the hostel is on the 3rd floor.

Very nice and cosy place in the center of the historic city. Especially the owner is very friendly and helpful and has great knowledge of what to see, where to go, what/where to eat etc. Do not expect the luxury of a 5 star hotel - it is still a hostel, but a very, very nice one!

Paula is the nicest person ever. She gave us very good tips for restaurants and places to visit. All her tips and comments were just perfect. We will come back to her hostel as soon as possible. Anandi + Rüdiger from Cologne

+: - the staff speaks english fluently - great breakfast! - excellent location, near to the metrostation, tramline 15, 25, 28, trainstation, - recent travel guides like Fodor's and Lonely Planet which we could use free of charge -: - short, small beds and very hard mattress - wifi only worked when we stood close to the door of the room - always hold the shower in your hand (no hanger) - ring the doorbell each time you want to get in - one day we had to wait one hour to get breakfast

Once past the slightly off putting staircase, you reach an enchanting world of brightly coloured decor, tasty home baked cakes aplenty and great sightseeing advice. Great hospitality, great location, comfortable and sooo clean. A real gem. Thank you. Only negative is that we would have liked to have made ourselves some tea and coffee, however we only had to wait until breakfast for an amazing feast!

Lovely breakfast and nice hostel keeper. But the whole place really stank like cigarettes and the bed was very short. (like 1.80?)
