Good things: Staff can speak English (a bit) which is valuable in French/Arabic speaking country. Good location (medina) and not difficult to get there apart from first time (medina consists of 9,5k alleys). No need for air con as there is not hot inside. Wi-fi. Breakfast on the roof. Cheap. Bad things: Not a lot of facilities, small single room only with a bed, chair and little table, no wardrobe or shelves. Small bathroom with shower just by toilet pan. Have to ask for soap or toilet paper.

The location is great, the staff were OK but the whole place just reeks of mould and sewerage. The bathrooms facilities are terrible, cold water/showers. WIFI that really barely works expect on 1 floor level and even then is poor. This place just needs a simple clean and some tips and tricks for tourists that would be helpful. Instead its just a low level hostel in a great location.

from airport or station phone to get met at blue gate. Taxi driver will do this. M d 150 from airport MD 20 from station. Pension is just 300m inside medina and 1000 years ago. Important. too many hustlers- be patient i get official tour guide. An MD 130 plus tourist menu ( more than you can eat) you can get 100 metres from ;pension MD 30 to 70. You will never eat so much salad in your life. fez medina is massive maybe half million people. Enjoy just don't get lost.

Pension Kawtar was the least nice place I stayed during my three weeks in Morocco. First the positives: The location is good, on a quiet alley near the blue gate in the median, and the staff are friendly. The negatives: My single room was tiny with no window, and freezing cold despite the warm weather outside. The only lock was a tiny pad lock thru teeny eye bolts (not at all secure), the shared bathroom was dirt, small, again no window or TP. Lonely Planet should remove it's recommendation.
