Easy to see that this hostel has been redone, and redone recently. Very clean, bright and fresh with quite helpful staff. My single room was small, but comfortable and clean. It's a short walk to Dominion Street where most things are. I'm glad I stayed here, and I'd stay here again.

Was a lovely place to stay! Really warm greeting when we arrived and the bathroom and kitchens were clean and well managed. Only complaint I have is the oven wasn't working when we were there but I'm sure that will be sorted pronto! Would recommend anyone to stay there!

The place is great, it has nice art work through it and a homely atmosphere. The only downside is that sound travels through the building like a hot knife through butter. Some people who stay here don't realise that not everyone is on holiday and that people do get up early and want to sleep.

This is the best place to stay in auckland. Vinnie and Kate are excellent managers, very helpful and the atmosphere feels just like home. Pentlands comes highly recommended!

Great hostel in a quiet neighborhood. Close to the supermarket and restaurants in Mt Eden. Rooms were nice and facilities were great. Only a short bus ride outside of cbd.

We only stayed one night, but the night that we did stay there we really enjoyed. This is a lovely hostel in a little village outside Auckland. We thought it was a good mix of quiet so that you could sleep, but busy enough to chat to other travellers and enjoy a few drinks. The only slight down side was that for the amount of people there, the kitchen and fridges were just not big enough as it was very busy as everyone was trying to make their dinner at the same time.

Great place to stay! Outside of the city, but only a short bus ride or cheap can away. The hostel is in a neighborhood so the deck closes at 10. The staff is friendly and it has a very homey feel.

Very clean bathrooms (individual use, not locker-room/shared style), extensive kitchen facility, quiet neighborhood. Kate (front desk) was very thoughtful, preparing the keys and communicating the door code by email in case I arrived after she left. A word about the location - it is accessible by both the numbered buses in Auckland as well as the Outer LINK bus system - just be prepared to walk 5-10 min from the bus drop-off point to get to the hostel.

The best Hostel Bathrooms imaginable! You have your own bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. And it's all very clean (Kitchen too). Staff were really friendly. Bedrooms were a nice size with real beds (not bunks)! And there's a piano and guitar in the lounge. By far the nicest hostel i've ever stayed in. Although the people staying there were mostly German, and not overly social. I met some nice people there though, everyone was pleasant, but knowone to hang out with really.

A big thank you to Kate for being an awesome manager, so helpful! A great place to stay despite the lack of glasses and cups in the kitchen!

Pentlands has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and is a great place to stay if you need to recover from a long haul flight. The staff are really helpful and the facilities are great. It is nice and quiet and in a good location. It's really easy to catch the bus into the city. All in all I would highly recommend this hostel to everyone except maybe people who want to party all the time. You do need to provide your own lock if you want to use a locker. I've already booked my next stay!

Mt Eden is a good location for everything though. If this was near central it would be double the price.
