I had a much better stay than 29 months ago, when the staff seemed unprepared for cold weather at Christmas! This time I found there was hot water without having to ask for it, and the staff were very helpful. I think that standards of cleaning are now better too, or perhaps I have more realistic expectations. The Petra is an ideal place to stay for anyone wanting to explore the Old City, assuming they can climb steep flights of steps! An economical choice. Don't hesitate to book in.

Very good location on Jaffa Gate, which is THE asset of Petra Hostel. Otherwise the rooms are in poor condition and the staff is not very friendly. The manager made it clear that I hadn't paid enough considering it was during Pessah holiday. Whereas breakfast is supposed to be included (see Hostelworld website) IT WAS NOT

This place is a complete disaster! We arrived to the hostel at 23:30. First thing that the receptionist (old, creepy guy in glasses) tried to do was telling us that they don't have room tha we have booked! And if we want to stay we need to book another and pay more (sic!). We disagreed with this. Less than 5 minutes later, all of a sudden, he managed to find a room for us - exactly the same that we have booked. This guye sipmly tried to scam us!
