The staff is the best. The services, help and advice they provide are super. Its far from the center of Funchal. At least 20-30 minutes walking, and the last bus to the hostel departs at 21.30 from city center... If you have a car its ok. The mattress of the double room its irregular and could disturb your sleep.

good value for money and the personal is very helpful and friendly The hostel has a very good atmosphere

Phil and his staff create a very pleasant atmosphere; the hostel is on a nice location, a bit out of town by foot, but with reasonable busconnection. Good bathrooms, computers for general use and a lot of outside space.

Decent and friendly Hostel, uncomplicated and very helpful host. We will definitely revisit it on our next trip to Funchal

Very nice hostel and still better staff. Phil helped me with finding the best hiking trail and find the best bus connection for me. The hostel is not located centrally, but it really is not very far. It is easy to walk to the city centre on foot. Everything u need, very uncomplicated and a nice atmosphere!

Phil's Haven is a great place to stay! It is a little out of the way from Funchal but can be easily reached by walking, and there is also a bus that stops right nearby. The bus is #40. If you walk from the hostel you arrive right in old town which is awesome! Phil and Edgar are great guys and the volunteers were super nice as well! All around a great place to be!

An excellent, true backpacker hostel. It boast a beautiful view over the Funchal bay, with peace and quiet but not far from the town centre (I walked - it is 20 min, but you can take a bus # 40). I met some super cool people there and I will definitely stay there again if I stumble in Funchal again.

Probably the best hostel I've ever stayed in, felt more like a house shared with friends, and I didn't previously know anybody there. Phil is the best host ever, and everybody was really friendly and sociable. The rooms are very cozy and comfortable, and everything is perfectly clean. The only minor downside is that it's a little bit remote, but can be easily reached by bus from the center. Other than that, all good!

Great place, great host. Walking from the hostel to the city center you get some amazing views of the island. I recommend both the destination and the hostel!

excellent staff and pleasant hostel, despite being far from the city center.
