We had such a fantastic time at the harmony guesthouse! Most of this is owed to the wonderful owners who were so incredibly kind and patient in helping us in any way they could. My husband got sick while we were there and she even helped us get medicine, also helping us book our flight and train tickets, she was a sweetheart and we greatly appreciate all her kind help. Oh and the food is delicious! Make sure you try the sweet and sour chicken, it's amazing!

I did not stay at this hostel, but cancellation worked great.
I'm quite a laid back person, so I read the reviews and thought maybe they were a little exaggerated. Maybe not. We arrived and were instantly asked for money and a suspisciously random amount for a 'key deposit', for 2 beds in a dorm. The only common toilet didn't flush, we were in a room over AND next door to a bar, it looked nothing like the photos on hostel world and was dirty. Another greedy Chinese person it seems! The other staff members were ok. Breakfast was expensive but decent.
good location, just on the main street and very fun at night. the place is not that big, little bit poor facilities, don't like the people there very well
They don't have any mat in the room so we need to walk around the room with wet feet after getting out of the bathroom. So annoying. And their Chinese food is not good.
Everything is very good at Harmony except the bathroom at the dorm. Nu flush toilet, water drop to the floor sink and average shower.
Negative!. Don't believe all that guidebooks say (e.g. Lonely Planet). The true boss of the hostel is Mr Deng's wife. Extremely greedy, smiling at you only when You pay her money, otherwise grumpy and not smiling at all / feeling angry if you don't chose a trip organised by her but someone else / convinced us to take a more expensive room without letting us see it first and it turned out to be a tiny hole with bars in a small window, with sewage smell from the bathroom. She's not polite!
Amazing hostel, the nicest we saw in pingyao with great staff to match, mr and mrs deng were very helpful and made us very welcome. Bonus points for the beautiful golden retriever Mocha.
I had a room close to the entrance. There was just to much noise early in the morning and late at night. The owner also speaks to loud
Good location and good service. Beds were confy and prices fair.
Nice rooms arranged around a beautifully decorated traditional courtyard within walking distance of all the city's sights. Traditional stone bed was huge and comfortable. Staff were very helpful, Mrs Deng even sent a taxi to collect us from the train station although I hadn't been organised enough to send her our train number in advance. The only downside was that the bathrooms smelt a bit bad, but I think this is a problem with Pingyao's drainage system rather than a problem with the hostel.
It was a great stay, staff are nice, helped us booking tours, trains etc. Great location and very authentic. The room (double bed private ensuit) was very nice, uniquely designed

Be preperd of power outage, it happens daily. The WiFi was very good in the whole hostel. The free pickup worked ut well. The food wasen't that good in the resturant. The room was very nice!
The good - great location, beautiful building. The bad - our room smelled of damp and the hot water never got much above room temp.
This is a nice hostel in a really good location. The bathrooms need to be upgraded and our bedroom was a little small for the three of us sharing. Our bed was really comfortable though and the hostel does a great range of tours everyday. The lady who ran the hostel was really great when helping us to book tickets etc. overall we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend.
It is generally a nice place and the staff is (in the Chinese way) really helpful with booking tours and trains. I stayed in the dorm above Cozy bar, which was quite loud in the evening and also in the morning when a musician decided to practice with the amp on... the main building looked nicer and more quite tho.
"Money first, questions afterwards" could be the motto of this hostel. Some old comments on the walls about Mian Shan trip could let you imagine that the hostel proposes you to see the 8th wonder of the world : forget it. Just another activities park where everything is fake and made by a rich Chinese businessman. Cleanliness is soso. Nevertheless, the place and location are awesome !
Well located near all the action but at the quieter end. The owners are knowledgeable, helpful and all the staff are cheerful, helpful and very efficient. I had a double room in the part of the guest house down the alley. Lovely room with a huge, comfortable bed. Food is OK and beer is cheap. The only fault I'd find is that I stayed 5 nights and my room was never cleaned. I'm not suggesting that they change bedclothes or anything but a swipe of a broom and empty the bin?
The hostels and rooms look very nice, and the trips you can book at the hostel are great. But if you decide to drink and eat on your roomaccount try to keep track of your own spendings. If we havn't done this we would have ended up paying double. We enjoyed the cozy bar of Harmony Guesthouse.
People are very helpfull and nice. Owner can and will plan everything for you bicycles taxis daytrips airport tickets you name it. Shower wasn't super clean and a bit in convenient build the rest was super.
