Nice hostel, western food (a bit expensive), well located. The hostel was very nice for backpackers overall, but there wasn't much going on at the time I was there (may, 2013). There is a nice bar close by just down the road...

We had the opportunity to see the kitchen, and it was not clean.

Good Hostel. The rooms are not very big but the traditional beds gives it and extra point. The location is good and the staff speaks english. There is also a bar very close were you can have some beers and play snooker. They offer excursions to some places outside Pingyao, we didn´t got them as we only had one day in the town.

Staying at Harmony guesthouse was such a pleasure. very kind owners, nice rooms with traditional beds. The only thing that bothered us was a bad smell from the bathroom sink. and we didnt really like the breakfast menu-not enough at all. anyways highly recommend this guesthouse.

We took one of the "day tours" which turned out to just be a drive to two locations by a man who only spoke Mandarin and indicated that we should pay for our own tickets and he would pick us up in two hours. There was no hot water in the room and the food in the surrounding restaurants was better than the food on site. The atmosphere is nice and it's a good place to meet other interesting travellers, but we would prefer to stay elsewhere next time.

Great location but average service bordering on rude at times. Very difficult to get clear information on tours and sent us on a tour with no English-speaking guide. Shower only luke warm at best, no toilet paper provided

Don't expect luxury but definitely place with the character! Right in the middle of the old Pingyao, very 'authentic' experience. The most comfortable pillows I've ever slept on..;)

We only stayed here for one night but can see the full potential of the place. The large dorm bathroom was unclean and appeared left that way the whole day but apart from that we had a pleasant stay here. The owner was extremely helpful organising our onward journey to Beijing and the courtyard was lovely for sitting and eating.

The room was really lovely-comfortable bed! The courtyard was beautiful. We arrived on an overnight train at 6:00 am and were able to check in when we arrived at the hostel. Our room didn't have a cable box and that was sorted out as soon as we let the staff know. Breakfast was good and the location was excellent! Husband and wife both speak really good English- on our way to the train station we called them to help communicate with the cab driver who was going the wrong way.

The atmosphere was good, the location great! We expected just a little bit more kindness by staff, after reading Lonely Planet! But in general it was a 8/10, so very good :)

This place was great! The rooms were off of beautiful courtyards, and the beds were traditional style Chinese beds called "Kangs," which were really cool, and very comfortable! It was just a really cool hostel with a lot of character.

Harmony Guesthouse is great - we had an awesome stay and felt very welcome by Sarah (her English is excellent!) and her husband. The Kang beds are really comfortable - we stayed in the 3 bedroom ensuite and there was more than enough space on the bed for the 3 of us. And Pingyao is a wonderful little town - wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you Sarah!!!

Excellent hostel for the summer, but I would not come again in the winter. It was -10C outside and the hostel had almost no heating inside, which made it a very unpleasant experience

The rooms were beautiful, but a little cold. Could you supply more blankets in the winter and make sure there is an a/c remote for hot air in the room. But overall, we loved our stay. You are very helpful and welcoming and your home is amazing!

The hostel itself is very nice. also are the rooms and the staff working there. Plus we got a free upgrade to a double room when we arrived. Sadly, the bedrooms as well as the common room were freezing cold as the heatings were not working properly.
