I stayed here for three nights in July 2013. It a cool place - nicely decorated bar/lounge area with an adjoining courtyard, and decent breakfast. I was in a six-bed dorm: clean and quiet, though the bathroom/shower was pretty old school and the toilet needed a bit of updating. The owners were lovely - helpful, efficient and friendly. If you're looking for a reasonable and cheerful place to stay, this is great - but there seems to be plethora of similar guesthouses in Pingyao, so look around.
We enjoyed our stay here very much. Picked us up 5.30am from the train st for free, and let us into our room then which was brilliant. Traditional room round lovely courtyard, we didn't find it very noisy. Breakfast available eg museli/oatmeal 10yuan, French toast 12 yuan, coffee 10 yuan. Also luggage storage in café available. The shared toilet which we used after we had checked out was often dirty. Very friendly english speaking owner. NB: half the wall is currently closed (restoration).
The location and staff is correct, they help you if they can, but the beer is always hot, so that you will go to the pub, where is expensive than the hostel.
We were greeted by a greedy owner as she immediately demanded that we pay higher rate than booked on hostel world stating that the 10% needed to make the reservation needs to be added back to the price and that the price was not updated online to reflect the summer price. There was not a functioning lock on our door and we had to wedge it in place with bedroom furniture. Room felt cramped, creepy, dark and damp. Luckily there were no bed bugs. Food was overpriced. Sitting area was uncomfortable
We really liked the look of the place. The courtyard, dining area, and attached bar were really nice. We stayed in the dorm and were happy with it. My one warning is that the dorm had quite a few people sharing the same bathroom, so expect to wait at times. Also, the dorm is above the bar. We didn't have an issue with noise really, but just an FYI.
Great courtyard hostel. Mrs. Deng arranged drivers for us to go see local sights not accessible by public transportation at fair prices. Mien Shan, Jing's residence, and Zhangbi fortress were all great recommendations and worth seeing. Staff doesn't speak much English, but they are helpful and hard working, and Mr. and Mrs. Deng speak English so it wasn't a problem.
Charming place right by South Gate of the Ancient City. Mr. Deng let me check in at 7 a.m. when I arrived in a super early train. I stayed in a two-bed room, which was very tiny and hard to access (almost like an attic). Although it was small, I was satisfied with the AC and the bathroom. My main gripe was that I didn't receive my own key for the room, so I had to ask the front desk to open the door for me each time I wanted to enter the room.
Such a fantastic hostel! Based around a beautiful courtyard, super friendly and knowledgeable staff -- and, best of all, enormous kang beds taking up most of the room. Couldn't recommend more highly.
locate on the main street of the old town.every room is adorned with SHANXI style.
The location is great, it's right on the main street and the staff are helpful. The room is kind of small but clean. The only problem is that during my stay, the town was powered off a couple of times.
Very helpful to have english speaking staff and they can arrange tours/train tickets for you for minimal added cost.

Everything was great, except when we checked-out the owner charged us for an extra night. We paid everything upfront, including a deposit, but in the end she fooled us into thinking we still owed her money for our 3 night stay. She tried to make me think I booked the 95 kuai room; good thing I had proof that I booked the 75 kuai one. Just be cautious when living here. Have a print out of your room reservation, I didn't which resulted in me paying additional money. Kinda sucked.
