We absolutely loved the place and it is perfect if you wanna do the Tongariro crossing.
Excellent base for the Tongariro crossing. Dorm rooms are unusually pleasant because they have sliding doors to the deck.
Nice location. The hostel is very funcitonal, but clean and the hot tub is great after a long hiking day.
Great place to stay - very clean, roomy, helpful with the crossing, have plenty of amenities.
Minuses from old fashioned water taps in the kitchen, made washing the dishes difficult. Showers were clean, but at least the one I used gave either too hot or cold water for most of the time.
A bit dated, but very quiet if you are looking for a chilled out hostel. You can book a private use of the hot tub which was nice. The bunk beds were old and really creaky.
The lodge had excellent facilities (such as a well-stocked kitchen with everything you need for cooking meals, laundry, hot tub which I sadly didn't have time to try out), the staff were extremely friendly and happy, and the room I was in was nice and spacious. It would have been nice to have a towel provided, but that's a minor quibble (I ended up using my own). Would definitely stay here again.
We had a great time staying here during our time in the national park. Zeus and his wife and there little son is really making you feel like home and they are always ready to help and answer your questions. Really nice place, clean and very much like being home. This place is on our top 5 hostel list in NZ.
clean bathrooms, friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, stunning landscape - i would stay at plateau lodge any time again!!!
