Betty's hostel in the Colonial Zone is a Santo Domingo institution. Her gallery connected to the hostel will wow you with local and Haitian art. Betty herself brings the southern hospitality of her native Tennessee to the Dominican shores. She is so nice that she'll let you look at the rooms first, and even recommend alternatives if you are not happy, but that will not be the case. I assure you. If you'd like privates, make sure to contact her directly.

I felt that this is hostel was great. betty is very helpful in navigating you through the city. She saved me a lot of money from cab drivers. haha but excellent sleeping accomadations and very good art. location is primetime right in the heart of the tourist district of the city. plenty of officers in teh area so not too many worries. overall I would give this hostel a 10 out of 10.

Bettyes has two great things going for it...firstly you could not ask for a better location whilst visiting Santo Domingo...the hostel is situated in the heart of the Old Town. Secondly Betty, a lady that not only knows the city, but can also assist with all things related to your time there. Drawbacks: the hostel is just two connected rooms, so no real social area..that said, it is very easy to meet the locals. If you just want a roof over your head in a great area, Bettyes is perfect

Great place to stay, excellent location, but relatively small hostel (when I was there it was me and one other person the first night. Also, Bettye is not a fan of drinking, so keep that discreet. Can't beat the location though, can pretty much see everything within a day or day and a half (everything is really compact, and this hostel is right in the middle of it.

very nice place to stay, nice decorations, familiar atmosphere,great value, the staff is very nice all the time, there was not hot water but the weather is so nice that i didn't care about it . its the place to stay in santo domingo.

The location and character of this place is unbeatable! I have never stayed in such a cosy and beautiful hostel - it is really quirky and full of amazing artwork. Beds and comfortable and there are lot's of fans. It is situated a minute from Plaza Cathedral and it was so easy to walk everywhere in Zona Colonial. Betty herself is a lovely and friendly woman and the other staff were brilliant as well. Really good place to meet other travellers as well. Loved every second!

There were dead cockroaches and a lot of dust and mosquitos. The lavatory is really tiny (no space for legs!!!), dim light and dirty floor.

There was no cold water. It\'s cramped and there were no personal lockers. Betty was very helpful. Location is excellently located in the heart of La Zona Colonial.

Nice art creates a vibe and when its not too crowded its very pleasant to share the two adjoining dorms. Bettye is cool and down to earth; location is amazing and SD is worth exploring. Who needs air conditioning? There are plenty of fans that can help keep the misquitoes away etc (best to keep them on) ...the wifi is really not strong tho and only worked for one of us in one room.

nice, simple place, and easy to find. great location- short walk to bars and restaurants in the colonial district. it was very loud though, with cars and drunk passer-bys at all hours of the night being easily heard. bettye was wonderful and helpful.

Betty's is a wonderful hostel with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The location is perfect for seeing the Colonial Zone as it is right by the Cathedral and Hard Rock Cafe; despite its closeness it is pretty quiet at night. I only stayed there for one night but if I ever return to SDQ then I will definitely be booking here!

Bettye was such an amazing person to meet. I loved staying at her place, I stayed one night when entering SDQ and then on my way out I stayed another two nights. She was super helpful and very nice. Next time I come to Santo Domingo I will be staying with her again. ALSO, if you fly in to the city: ASK HER to get the taxi driver to pick you up, really nice guy will pick you up and provide you with all the information you need to get around.
