It's close to the beach and at the moment it's the best thing because in the city after the earthquake there is nothing! during the week they give you free breakfast and 40MB of free internet, so it's ok!

Funny, I saw here a lot of people saying the staff is really friendly and helpful. Well, to me their answer about anything was "I don't know" followed by a "you can connect and google it" Specially from the blond girl and the owner. I think if you don't know something and wants to be helpful, you can make an effort for helping guests wich obviously wore not local instead of shaking your shoulders and tell me to google it. If I wanted to google, I wouldn't ask. It's a basic concept.

Unfortunately, the other packpackers did not clean the kitchen. In the mornings, the kitchen looked disgusting.

The beds were insanely comfortable. The only real issue is that New Brighton got hit hard by the quake so it is a bit of a ghost town right now. Kinda a creepy vibe but super laid back. I would probably stay here again.

Nice hostel, very close to the beach. Good facilities (good kitchen, very good showers, cheap wifi, cheap surfboard and wetsuit rental --> 10 dollars at the time of writing).

I mean its not awful by any means, but it doesn't rank up there with the best. Its good for a nights sleep and free breakfast. Frankly, the hostel is fine, its Christchurch that isn't worth it.

Friendly and helpful staff (via email and in person). Booked a single room but ended up in a twin bunk room. This meant reading was not easy but offered extra earthquake protection! Still would have like to have been informed that what I was getting was different to that requested. First night was quite noisy with a squeaky and banging door (?). This was not the case on the second night. The kitchen was not so well equipped. Showers had massive pressure. Overall 7/10

Lovely and clean, easy to find with the bus, location nice and close to shops, beach, places to eat. Keys were a bit funny, but the staff changed them for us which was very helpful!

I enjoyed my stay here, and the people on the front desk were lovely. The facilities are old, but clean. Newcomers to this area need to be aware of frequent aftershocks affecting Christchurch, as some of the other foreigners I spoke to weren't even aware there had been a significant national disaster, and I think they really need to be informed about how to stay safe. Beautiful beach near the hostel, be sure to check out the work of Peter Donnelly on the sand under the Pier!

Good hostel..... wifi really cheap and good and says alot for NZ as usually very expensive and not great. Location is ok if you want to be near the beach but I guess with the earthquake not much to do in the ciy centre

This hostel was flithy & damp, the fridge in the kitchen stunk & had never been cleaned. The earthquake in christchurch cannot be blamed for the way this hostel is as it is disgusting. The staff seemed more occupied with running the cafe and were nto helpful at all. The hostel should be closed for renovations instead of robbing people of there money for a terrible service

The kitchen was full of dirty dishes and there was hardly any cutlery to use. During the night the partying that was done in the kitxchen was well heard in room 1, which was not appreciated because I had to get up pretty early the next morning. I couldn't complain with the staff because there was nobody during the night.
