The hostel is very good, even though it is a bit far from city center. It only lacks a space for travelers to sit around and chat... And if staying close to the kitchen, it can be a bit noisy.

It is quite far from downtown, but buses are how I got around. The bathrooms were large and the dorm rooms were big as well. I loved the free breakfast, as that is not common in New Zealand, even if it was just toast.

We have been in New Zealand for almost 6 months and this was easily the worst hostel to date. We may have just been very unlucky with our experience. It's quite nice that the hostel is near the beach. But it's so noisy. The walls seem paper thin. We didn't eat at the hostel as they require deposits for plates and cooking utensils etc. we were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the place. Bed sheets and pillows were badly stained and the kitchen always seemed filthy.

Initial surprise at location: but it's lively during the day, right on the coast, great library with free internet, plenty of places to eat, bars right down the street. Quieter area- but felt more real than the typical locale for backpacker hostels. No grungier than any other hostel. Friendly staff, good breakfast.

The hostel has a nice location even though it is a little removed from the city. My room was very clean but the bathrooms could use some work, they are a bit makeshift and could use a good cleaning. The beach and pier are pretty cool and there is a super market and a few restaurants all close by.

To be honest this was a last minute booking. The kitchen was dirty, there was no lounge area, the free bread at breakfast was moldy and the other people in the dorm seemed to think that chatting at 1am was ok.

Staff were lovely. Location isn't great, its a fair hike by bus into town, but the bus stop is right opposite the hostel. the beach its near is pretty abysmal. We left our booking till last minute, so this was all that was available. breakfast in the morning was toast, cereal and eggs. was a pain to have to pay a $5 deposit to get kitchenware when we needed to cook though.

Staff was really friendly. Free breakfast was nice. Hostel was in a weird part of town really far from city center which I didn't expect.. Very close to a nice looking beach though. The other guests seemed a bit more rowdy that other places but I don't know if that's the hostels fault. Was quiet at night.

Far outside the city. Everything around 5 minutes walking distance. There is not much going on.

Hostel is a bus ride from the city center, but easy to get to. My room had a toilet in the corner, which was weird, but the beds were nice, and the room was clean. The people in the hostel at the time were great, and the free breakfast downstairs is actually good. I'd happily stay there again.

The room smelled a bit, but you run into that a lot at hostels with carpeting. The location was great for the beach, but not so good for getting into the city - 20 minute bus ride from downtown. They have Zenbu internet which I've learned to hate, but they at least give you a minimal voucher for it so that you can check your email, just remember to turn off any automatic picture uploads you might have on your phone or laptop otherwise it's gone in a minute.

The staff were helpful but this hostel was a bit of a ripoff. We paid $30 for a room with no window and for facilities and extras that were well below average. I wouldn't recommend staying here for an extended period of time (more than a night) i was rather disappointed. The breakfast idea was cool but with the amount of food supplied relative to the price we paid, not worth if at all.
