A great base to our stay in Auckland, the city centre is walkable or you can catch the bus around the corner. It is in a trendy area with plenty of food and drink outlets. Great staff and good facilities.

Great hostel in a nice area of town, close to everything (bus, library, supermarket). The common areas are big and clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpful with anything. However, our room was not cleaned for six nights, and WiFi is limited. The house is a bit old, so beware of crooky doors, run down carpets and suchlike, but still worth the money. All in all a great place to stay :)

Ponsonby Backpackers is fantastic! It is probably the cleanest hostel I have ever stayed in, the kitchen is well stocked and immaculate and the dorms are clean and really comfortable. The staff are so helpful and always friendly. The location is awesome, Ponsonby road is really cool. It is definitely a 'classy' hostel, rather than one of the trashy party-centered soulless chains. I really enjoyed my stay here and look forward to visiting again!

Friendly staff, very hepful and well informed about everything. Historical building with good athmosphere a great location, although it is not in the city centre it's easy and not so far to walk or take a bus.

Comfortable hostel, very quiet. The location is great for shops in Ponsonby, but to get to the city it's a short drive, or you can catch a cheap city circle bus.

This hostel was one of the best I have stayed in, in my 7 months of travel. If was clean, friendly and just great!

The management personnel at Ponsonby Backpackers were very friendly and accommodating. They genuinely cared about how visitors' stays were. The overall atmosphere of the hostel was laid-back, making it easy to meet others staying at Ponsonby Backpackers. I will definitely recommend this hostel to friends visiting the Auckland area.

Ponsonby Backpackers was a home away from home. Jon and Holly made you feel right at home and in touch with all of the vital information that was needed for not only the hostel but the surrounding areas. Clean and tidy rooms with great facilities. It seems silly to give nearly all excellents, but this hostel is seriously one of the best I've stayed in. Facilities are great, especially if you're frugal like me and like to cook even when on vacation -- the kitchen is wonderful! There's a nice porch out back where everyone chills, and the vibes among the staff, those passing through, and the regulars are wonderfully positive and fun. Clean bathrooms and clean rooms. I'll definitely return there when I'm next in Auckland!

Pretty much everything you could hope for in a hostel. The living conditions were great, the cleanliness was reasonable, and the staff was knowledgeable about the area and very willing to help you explore their city. I'd stay there again.

If you want to stay at a clean, friendly and chilled backpackers in Auckland..this is it. The hostel is fairly small compared to the ones in town which means its less crowded, you can meet people easily, its clean and friendly as. As a couple we stayed in a double room and a dorm - Both were clean and tidy with comfy beds and good value for the city. The bathrooms are always clean as is the kitchen. Its a short walk to the city and ponsonby road is full of bars, cafes ect. THE BEST HOSTEL :)

A relaxed family type atmosphere with really helpful friendly staff on hand.

A far stomp/bus ride from the CBD, but Ponsonby itself is actually nicer anyway - bars, cafes, shops. Hostel is pretty cool, though quite a few long-termers. Would stay there again, if I could get a booking!

That's good accommodation!! near huge supermarket and fashionable street.... just walk to city abput 15 munutes...

Nice place to stay at in Auckland, no downsides really, maybe just a bit out of town but this is advantageous when having a car (free parking), 10-15 min walk to supermarket and 30 min to city center, staff are very helpful

A unique hostel in Auckland and very enjoyable. It felt more like home than a hostel. Great big, clean kitchen and backyard. A great location, close to bars and restaurants with K Road close by and very near a bus into the city centre.
