Can't recommend this hostel because we were met with a very bad service, staff was missing and locked out of their own office, they wanted us to pay for the checkout day, there was no lock on the door to the rooms etc. Far away from Rio and the buses dont go that often.

I visited several Hostel in Brazil until today and I must say that the Pontal Hostel was the best. I had a double bed room with own bathroom. The room and the building was really clean and here they know what maintenance is (the other hostels probably never heard about it). The hostel is directly at the beach, 50 Meters maybe. One disadvantage: Restaurant, banks or supermarkets are not so close and a bus or taxi is needed for this kind of needs. But a bus station is 3 Minutes by feet away.

Pontal Hostel is like any other beachfront hostel I have stayed at. No matter how clean you try to keep it, it just does not stay clean. I stayed in a 6 person dorm - it was pretty dingy/bathroom was gross. The breakfast was better on some days than the others (included more fruit options) but overall the same as offered at all other Brazilian hostels. The staff could be more helpful. I saw one of the 4 person dorms and it was so much beter than mine, worth splurging if you stay here.

We found the hostel wonderful, very clean, in front of of the Macumba Beach, the staffs are very nice we just didn't like the woman that work in the kitchen she was very impolite, but the breakfast was delicious with juice, fruits, cofee, milk, cake, bread, jams,etc.... It's a very nice and quiet place. We will be back soon.
