Can't recommend this hostel because we were met with a very bad service, staff was missing and locked out of their own office, they wanted us to pay for the checkout day, there was no lock on the door to the rooms etc. Far away from Rio and the buses dont go that often.

Very clean, excellent place for the money payed.

I visited several Hostel in Brazil until today and I must say that the Pontal Hostel was the best. I had a double bed room with own bathroom. The room and the building was really clean and here they know what maintenance is (the other hostels probably never heard about it). The hostel is directly at the beach, 50 Meters maybe. One disadvantage: Restaurant, banks or supermarkets are not so close and a bus or taxi is needed for this kind of needs. But a bus station is 3 Minutes by feet away.

Pontal Hostel is like any other beachfront hostel I have stayed at. No matter how clean you try to keep it, it just does not stay clean. I stayed in a 6 person dorm - it was pretty dingy/bathroom was gross. The breakfast was better on some days than the others (included more fruit options) but overall the same as offered at all other Brazilian hostels. The staff could be more helpful. I saw one of the 4 person dorms and it was so much beter than mine, worth splurging if you stay here.

We found the hostel wonderful, very clean, in front of of the Macumba Beach, the staffs are very nice we just didn't like the woman that work in the kitchen she was very impolite, but the breakfast was delicious with juice, fruits, cofee, milk, cake, bread, jams,etc.... It's a very nice and quiet place. We will be back soon.

It was a 23 dorm dingy wet rape dungeon.....decided to leave cos we didn't want to catch aids off the bed....lost our deposit but was pretty stoked to get out of there.

We were very appreciative of staff allowing us to store bike and personal belongings at Hostel even after we had checked out 4 days before. We were initially disappointed with the lack of equipment in the communal hostel kitchen but appreciative of being allowed to borrow equipment from the main kitchen.

Great hostel, felt like we were in a nice hotel. really clean and great staff, right on a beautiful beach, quite good surfing as well (the hostel rents boards). Great place to go for a couple of days to get out of rio. i emphasize however that this is quite outside rio! it took over an hour in a taxi with not much traffic from ipanema, would not recommend staying here if u plan to be seeing all the sights of Rio everyday. there are buses but not too easy. But still great hostel!

This hostel is located outside of Rio, it is difficult to get here and the breakfast is really bad in comparison to the other hostels I stayed at. But it was easy to make friends here and it is nicely located by the sea. So it all depends on what you want. It is good for surfing but bad if you want to go sightseeing in the city center. The staff was really nice though but I would not stay here again since it is so far away.

This is a nice, modern hostel with clean rooms and a good breakfast too. However this is not in Rio. It is not even near to Rio. It is 1.5 hours away and there is nothing to do in the area in the evening without getting a taxi somewhere. The nearest restaurant is 2km away. The staff were ok but a bit clueless. The laudry prices were extortionate. There is internet but apart from that theres nothing to do at the hostel. That said it was right on the beach with good surf.

The hostel is great and it stays in front of a beautiful beach. It's true that it's a little bit far from downtown, but you can easily take a bus nearby to go there. The only problem was the towels that weren't changed.

Hostal location amazing, right on the beautiful beaches of macumba/ pontal. The hostel is brand new so is very clean, 2 toilets and showers for the 4 bed dorm i stayed in! Breakfast is one of the best ive had in s.america and Joao and the other staff were so freiendly and helpful...they even gave me an easter egg on easter sunday. If youre looking for a beach to chill, this is the place, if youre looking for a party, maybe stay closer to Rio.
