The first thing to know is this is not a hostel for travelers passing through. Reception is virtually non existent. They emailed me my room code and instructions. 90% of the people are long term guests and as soon as you walk into the room you feel like you are in someone’s house and everyone is mad you are there. I found an empty bottom bunk but apparently one of the long term guests decided they wanted it and moved all my stuff to another bed. Overall though I enjoyed the amenities and bar.

Had a great stay at coral bay lodge. Only a couple things that could have improved my stay - would've liked plug sockets for the top bunk. Ceiling fan was quite close to the foot of my bed (top bunk) - I cut my finger on it adjusting my covers and had to keep an eye getting in and out that my head was clear of the fan. Lastly the fridge in the room was very smelly - girls staying there longer term had cleaned everything out so was a problem with fridge not food.

Really disappointed. Staff were not helpful, seemed more concerned about opening their restaurant business than helping hostel guests. Security is poor, kitchens are okay but sinks often clog up. Rooms aren't cleaned often. Not enough convenient plug sockets in the room, if you have a large travel adapter it will be too big for some. To use the kitchen you HAVE to use a basket from reception, which they charge you $30 deposit for, even if you dont want the plates/cutlery. Bit scammy.

Backpackers Hostels in Port Douglas really do portray the laid back, ‘no worries’ vibe that the land down under is so well-known for. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself lazing by your Port Douglas hostel’s great pool soaking up the sun with your new hostel mates.

You’ll find hostels located right in the heart of the town for those of you looking to explore the town in depth and its attractions (aka nightlife). For others who are looking for more of a beach getaway, yet still central, a hostel that’s located a bit further away from the bustling inner town will do the trick for you.

While you’re backpacking in town a trip along the Great Barrier Reef is a must-do to add to your bucket list. Choose from a variety of options when it comes to swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving along the reef. There’s nothing like seeing incredible scenery from a different perspective and while it may be a bit pricey, if you’ve made it all the way to the land down under we’d say it’s worth the extra cash to hop on a scenic helicopter or seaplane flight. A day trip to the Daintree Rainforest is also an adventure worth seeking out. Spending a bit of R&R with walks around the port that offer incredible views is something that should also be on your list to do, not to mention if you’re in town for the weekend markets along the beach.

Thanks to Port Douglas’ relatively smallish size, getting around is pretty easy as most places are within walking distance from major attractions. An Eco-friendly and efficient way to get around and explore the town is to hire a bike. You’ll find a lot of independent coaches servicing the town too.
