This was my second time staying at Portal del Sur. Very good location, at walking distance from a lot of touristic spots. The staff is very gentle and willing to help you with anything you need. The hostel's structure is also very nice considering the price. Of course, it's an old building and it has it's flaws, but nothing that can jam your stay. The free breakfast is a life and budget saver, with juice, milk, coffee, bread, and some medialunas with butter and dulce de leche.

One of my favourite hostels, central location, beautiful old building. Nice rooms, great place to meet people. Good breakfast, staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There's a guy upstairs who can help you book all different kinds of trips, through all of South-America, for free! Only downside: they lost my laundry, and didn't really do anything to solve the problem, so after 4 days waiting I ended up going down to the laundry service myself, where I found my stuff somewhere in a back room...

In the past, some friends stayed at the Portal del Sur and really liked it. For this reason I decided to stay there. But the truth is that currently the hostel is well below the ideal. Upon entering the building there is a red carpet beaten and dirty and you see dozens of cases of beer stacked. Added to this a stench of smoke permeated everywhere. This is because there is a rooftop bar. Moreover, the roof bar does not let you sleep in peace. Think twice!!!

Perfect location for getting the number 8 to and from the airport. Breakfast is really good and really nice chilled atmosphere in the whole hostel. Only downside is how crowded the dorms can be. The last one I was in barely had enough room for everyone's bags and the lockers are pretty hard to get to with everyone's bags in front of them. The smaller dorms are much better though, and probably worth the extra money if you are staying more than a night! Staff are really friendly!

The hostel was OK - everything worked as it should and it as very secure with a guard downstairs. The thing that dissappointed me was the staff - front desk staff could not help with travel arrangements and the travel agent was only available from 11 to 5 (when you are normally out sightseeing), and even within those hours, it was sporadic around lunch or coffee times. Also helpful if you knew exactly what you wanted to do, but not overly inspiring. Not bad, not amazing either.

In front of the hostel there were people working in the street with trucks, machines... until 1:30 or 2 a.m. Impossible to sleep. I think it is everyday, because it is a kind of stock receiving materials everynight.

Lovely hostel in a large old building - lots of stairs, or the option of taking the small elevator. Roof top bar had great views. Daily housekeeping made it feel more like a hotel rather than a hostel. Only comment, you had to leave room keys at reception every time you left the hotel, great for security, however when you returned it was sometimes a wait to get keys back if the desk was busy or unmanned.

Kitchen facilities for self-cooking very small. No air-conditioning or efficient ventilation in communal areas - got very hot and sticky.

Staff were great and very helpful. The shared dorm was pretty cramped but okay. The air-conditioner was broken in our room and there was no windows or fan so we had to leave the door open all night just for some circulation. Two very hot and uncomfortable nights. Depending on which room you get, the toilet and shower are on a different floor than the room you stay in. Overall it was an okay place to stay, but I have stayed in much nicer (and worse i guess) hostels around south America.

Excellent location, very good accomodations, staff tries very hard to make your stay a pleasant one, and good breakfast. Only complaint is in summer, 2nd floor common area is not air conditioned although most rooms are and rooftop bar is a great place to cool off. Overall, highly recommended.

The bed sheets do not look very clean. There is a very popular club downstairs and so if your room is close to the street. You will hear their music all night long.

Excellent helpful staff. Our double room was spacious although the air con was not very effective. Breakfast was good and efficiently served. A fan in the communal area would be good!

The staff is excellent! Very friendly and helpful with information. I particularly enjoyed the laid back, quiet atmosphere. The hostel itself is not a party hostel, BUT they have many activities and a roof top bar to cater to those who came to BsAs to enjoy the night life. Overall the hostel was a great experience. i'd give a 4.5/5 rating, the 0.5 point off due to poor quality bunk beds...there were times i almost fell off as i climbed the steps.

Perfect location - within walking distance to Plaza de Mayo, Teatro Colón and Florida street, and a 5-minute walk to Café Tortoni and the subway. The staff was lovely and the bar on the terrace is very nice. We were on a private room, but we heard no complaints from the people who were staying in the dorms either. If stairs are a problem, though, this might not be the place for you (the elevator doesn't go to the terrace, where breakfast is served).

The location is great - right in downtown near to all great places such as the political places, San Telmo, etc. The rooms are cleaned and the building is very charming with its internal stairs, paintings and the rooftop. Quality/Price ***

When I made reservation, it was described that all the taxes where included, but when I payed, they put more 10% for payement with Mastercard. I think it´s unlegal Also, the conditioning air have hour to work, I payed to use it at the private rooms, but at the afternoon they turn it off. I´ve talked to the staff, and then they (very helpful) changed the programation for me. At the day 16 february, we had to get away of the hostel, because there was a sparying of pesticide, from 10h to 15h, (...)
