Clean hostel with good facilities, and a good price for visiting SC. Bit of an odd vibe while I was staying here, I wouldn't recommend it for solo travelers, people seemed to keep to their own groups/themselves, wasn't all that social. Not one for the security conscious either as there is no front door as such, just a small gate throughout the day. But a good standard hostel :)

Great hostel, perfect location in such a beautiful town. Craft markets and fruit/veg markets 5-10 min walk. Main street which is filled with great café's, shops, bars 5-10 min walk. Beautiful communal outdoor area to sit and relax in, fire place in lounge area. Free breakfast. Really friendly staff who make a real effort to make you feel at home, organise great tours one of the best we have ever done (we have done tones) . HOT HOT water in showers 24/7. Room cleaned every day. Great stay..!!!

Great hostel, location is perfect distance to Real de Guadalupe. Very cute atmosphere, accommodation is decent. The staff is helpful and friendly. If you need to do tours they could help you book them. Not a party hostel, so perfect place to relax in but you still get to meet other travelers.

Didnt't like the place at all and don't understand the good ratings. Location is far off the center and the rooms resemble dark, cold holes. Also, there is only a very small inside place to hand out when it's cold, fits lile three people.

Nice and comfy, breakfast was good and the showers were excellent. Beds in the dorm were comfy enough. Stayed during a down period and spent almost the whole time in the hostel, reading and writing. Nobody questioned me about this, as they will do at a lot of other hostels - thanks for that! Downtown is a bit of a trek - but all's relative. SCC isn't a large town. I can recommend it!

Run by a super-friendly and helpful group of French people, who love their adopted city and will help you to love it too, this Posada was very comfortable and relaxing. Rooms and shared bathroom were always clean. We enjoyed the bagel breakfasts, Easter dinner, day trip, and local recommendations. Set in the residential area of San Cristobal, you will feel as though this is your home, too!

The Casa del Abuelito is a real gem. As soon as you arrive in the courtyard, one can feel the great energy found at this hostel. There is a true sense of hosteling in this albergue. The staff creates an atmosphere within the hostel were it is extremely easy to connect with all the guests. There is a nice sense of community within the hostel, with the sharing of meals and drinks. I love this hostel. Tschuss! Amagi Patrick

This is a wonderful place. The proprietors combine warmth, efficiency, cultural sensitivity, energy....everything you could ask for in a very lovely setting. They have arranged a variety of unique excursions with extraordinary local guides; for example, if you have any interest in learning about Chiapas' many small, family-operated coffee farms, be sure to take the trip to Yaxchilan with the Lopez Gomez family.

There were ants marching on the kitchen table at all times. Needs some fumigation. The staff was mostly great but they weren't quite honest with tour prices and charged them way more expensive than the official value.

Owner Comment (Show)
Buenas tardes, We are sorry you experienced a problem with some ants. We mantain a high level of hygiene and the kitchen is cleaned thoroughly every day. Due to the brievety of your stay with us, you may not have got a full impression of what the Posada is really like. Regarding the prices of the excursions, we are working hard to find the more personal, original and customized ones. All of our excursions are very competitively priced and PREAGREED with all the guides. Regarding our honesty, we welcome you to come back and stay with us again so you can get to know us better. Best wishes, La posada del Abuelito

I stayed one week in Posada del Abuelito. The place is really welcoming, the patio is a nice play to stay in between the visits. I stayed in a charming and comfortable private room, always clean and with hot water. Breakfast was good too I enjoyed the bagels. Staff is great, Alex and Guillaume are always ready to help, they gave us good tips about the city and Alex organised interesting visits in the area (Chamula, Coffee farm, Palenque). Its only 3 blocks from the main street. You should go!

This hostel is a great value! The rooms are charming (we stayed in a private without bathroom) and the common areas are lovely and well taken care of. There are many nice extras as well like towels, soap, tea, coffee, etc. The staff was really excellent and contributed to the wonderful atmosphere of this posada.
