It is very hot in the room, specially now in the summer. There should be a ar conditioning, necessarilly. Also, when there is a party, it becomes very noisy inside the hostel, so one cannot sleep.

Great staff and very helpful with booking tours and finding stuff to do, breakfast was great and the location of the hostel is amazing. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at Pura Vida and would most definitely stay there again if I ever return to Rio.

Would not recommend. The beds were so disgusting to the point we decided to leave the hostel. Washrooms are cramped and doors don't have locks for showering. Close walk to the beach, but not worth it based on how unclean the rooms were

A very good hostel with helpful staff

Having just one bathroom for girls inside a female shared 10 beds room, having girls coming in and out to use this bathroom was just horrible, noisy and unsafe

Good location (5min from Copacabana, 10 min from Ipanema), very friendly staff, cheap (for a booking in November, in low season) but unfortunately not very clean as regards the bathroom. Big party on the first floor on Saturday night until 3am, then loud music from another place I hadn't been able to locate, until 7am...: don't forget your earplugs if you want to sleep!!! But I know it was risky on a Saturday evening so I saw it coming. If you want quietness, don't go to a hostel in general :)

Dodgy and black dirty matrasses... poor facilities to lock your belongings... in a case under the bed. 4bed girls dorm was dirty and tiny... bad value for money in that room ! Had to use bathroom in the 10bed dorm on the opposite side... i wouldnt book again... even if thecommon areas are really nice.

Pura Vida is right by Copacabana beach, an easy 5 minute walk. Awesome. Located in a slightly ghetto area but we felt safe during our stay. Staff is great but breakfast is weak (you get one meager option to choose). If you are around, take a fotevolley lesson (25 reals) which was great. Be prepared to be yelled at (still was fun)! Definitely check out the night market that pops up beside Copacabana beach and of course, do all the touristy things (Christ, Sugarloaf, Ipanema, etc.).

The hostel is located on the street entrance to a favela, which was not clearly shown on the hostel description. I was travelling alone and did not feel safe here, so ended up not staying at the hostel and lost my deposit.

Amazing staff very helpful with information and friendly too. The atmosphere is awesome and they offer trips to most sites in and around Rio making it easier to explore. Met really interesting and friendly people. 2 blocks from Copacabana beach and really close to the metro and bustop.

Clean but over priced for what you get. I was here for the World Cup and overheard many many complaints at the front desk. They'll try and charge you an extra dollar at every chance they get - they charged my friend an additional 20 for borrowing the bolt cutter to remove her lock ! Breakfast is basic or you can pay more for what is generally included at other hostels.

Pura vida's staff are really helpful and pleasant and know a lot about the city. The hostel is in a really nice location and is surprisingly safe. We were a stone's throw away from copacabana and there are a lot of great restaurants around with easy access to buses to the center of town and to cash machines. The bar has a really good atmosphere too. The bathroom facilities are a bit cramped but definitely understandable based on the design of the building. No complaints here, you will enjoy it!

Awesome place! Really enjoyed my stay there. Staff are very helpful and there are many activities you can book through the hostel. Location is incredible - 5 min walk to copacabana and close to Ipenama's shores too, next to supermarket, restaurants, bus stop. Was kept clean through the busy world cup period which was great. Rooms are tidy. Either chill on the hammock on the balcony or drink away at the bar with an awesome barman! Highly recommend local favela tour and the hostel in general. A++

Great location - just a few blocks away from the beach. Great Staff. Although I stayed in this hostel whilst it was relatively empty, I sensed that this is a real party hostel. The hostel itself looks amazing inside and outside and has a real comforting feeling.

Nice location, nice building. The front desk staff could definitely be friendlier though. They're not friendly and not really clear about a lot of things. They even cancelled our tours a couple of times (last minute) and then told us about it with attitude. The doorbell is somewhat hidden & they won't buzz you in until you figure it out (even though they can see you on camera). Overall though, I think I would stay there again because of the location and the bar staff.
