Upon arrival it is very hard to find the hostel, as taxi drivers don't know it, mainly because it is in such a bad area. Day time staff where hard to find (we stayed at the weekend), the hostel only had 3 showers for all the guests but one of them was broken. The communal lounge/roof terrace upstairs is the best thing about this hostel, with the potential to be good as it has table tennis, pool table and darts etc but no one was there when we was there So on the whole we didn't have a great stay

Had a great time here. Planned on staying only 2 nights which turned into 5. Great community feel to the hostel, staff went out of their way to organise and motivate travellers to go on day trips and family dinners. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend it if you are antisocial or just in Manila to transit to another destination. But if you're wanting to see the real Manila, highly recommend it. Stay for a few days and you'll really appreciate this amazing city. Rooftop chill out spot is ace!

Made to feel really welcome, met some amazing people, had a fantastic time, 3 times that I passed through. Love the shared areas, a bit too much, just made my early morning flight, will definately return again! Down side, beer twice the price of local area & sim card +3x actual price in shopping mall! Chill, money makes a bad bed fellow

I stayed here two nights and had such. a. good. time. If you stay here: explore the city with people you just met (ask the staff for directions!), watch the sun set from the roof, go out dancing, don't be stingy with the alcohol, stay up too late talking, watch the sun rise from the roof, be prepared to want to stay longer than you planned...

Best atmosphere for a hostel ever! Super friendly and cheap Jeepnee into the city so no problem at all! The only complaints are there were not lockers for your big luggage only small lockers for really important stuff and there was no hot water in the showers. Other than that, a MUST go!!

Chilly water has all sorts of tangible health benefits, like soothing sore muscles and releasing happy endorphins!

DON’T EVER STAY IN HOSTELS! THEY ARE FULL OF STRANGE SMELLY BACKPACKERS WHOSE PARENTS NEVER TRAINED TO AIM, FLUSH OR WIPE AFTER TAKING A PLOP. THEY LITTER EVERYWHERE, EAT YOUR FOOD AND USE YOUR SHAMPOO. AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THEIR DISGUSTING FEET. DON’T BELIEVE TRAVEL BLOGS RECOMMENDING HOSTELS AS CHEAP, SAFE, SOCIAL, YADA YADA. PAY THE EXTRA 20 BUCKS AND STAY IN A PROPER HOTEL WHERE YOU CAN GET SOME PEACE, QUIET AND AN EARLY BEDTIME. NEVER AGAIN.

Staying in Red Carabao felt like I was at home. It was like we were one huge family, from different parts of the world but bound by our love for travel. If you're the type of traveler who likes to party, have fun, go on adventures, willing to explore the metro, and emotionally ready to see the grit of Manila, then Red Carabao is the place for you. It's a backpacker's haven. Save a spot for me on the couch because I will be back real soon!

Our rating isn't applicable because we never got to stay here. Receiving an email telling us they had to close for the holidays with one day warning, we had to find elsewhere. They offered another hostel for one night at a specific price, but on arrival they hadn't actually confirmed it and it was a lot more expensive. A shame as NYE is a very hard time to get last minute accommodation. Worst is that the staff haven't even replied to our email yet.

There’s just no reason we should be faulted for another hostel pulling a price switcheroo.

3 words to describe: You feel like a part of a FAMILY. They nurture a trusting environment (they let you keep your own tab... wut). Being away from the red light, it attracts more adventurous, fearless travelers looking not to get their feet wet, but dive right into local culture. FUN: hosts genuinely want you to have a good time. That’s all the details I’ll go into here. The vibe just gives off the FEELS, yo. Might be the couch or the good-natured people who stay there, but it’s palpable.

Not a hostel, but a community. Staff are very open minded and friendly and are organizing trips and activities throughout the week. Awesome place to stay.

An excellent hostel community. Its not in the typical backpacking area but Manila is a big sprawl of a place and this location allows you to get into town, should you wish, or appreciate other less trampled areas. The hostel encourages guests to do things together and this works really well. Highly recommended

Comfortable couches crowd the common space welcoming weary travelers at the Red Carabao. Though not located in the heart of Manila's downtown, Red Carabao is situated nearby Manila's cultural highlights. Ask the staff for a map or a tour and you will see the carabao heart beats for Manila. Red Carabao introduces guests to Filipino culture, history, and the grit and honesty of modern Manila. Some travelers say skip Manila. Stay with Red Carabao and you will see they are wrong!
