It was quite a great place to stay, I kind of feel bad for not booking three nights there instead of just one. It has a great warm atmosphere, the staff is great, and just the way it is is just superb. The fact that the building is under current renovations, giving the exterior of the building quite a frightening look, just works so well with the impact you have when stepping inside this beautiful, well kept, hostel.

My friend and I loved staying at this hostel. The staff were very sweet and helpful and the room and bathrooms were super tidy. It is very well located, a 3-5 minute walk from Sol. There's also a cinema which shows movies in English right around the corner :) We can only recommend this hostel!

Good location for a good price. The bed was awfull, if you turned a inch it was like you were making a pornmovie. The location for us was perfect. This place was quiet. But this isn't a hostel but more a pension.

the kitchen was nice, it had all the basics- we went and bought a few groceries and ate for a fraction of what it would have cost to eat out! also very close to a metro, that was really nice. the woman who owns it didnt speak english very well, but if you know spanish or can manage to understand key phrases you'd be just fine and she's totally nice. the room was big, clean, and the bed wasnt rock hard. overall Very good.

Good hostel, the location is excellent and easy to find. English is no problem with the staff, however I am a bit mystified about when the reception is actually staffed and when not. It seemed a bit random (although I only stayed for two days and was out of the hostel most of the time). The location is great, near Sol (the place to be), beds are comfy and cleaned every day. No breakfast, but enough space to store your own stuff in the fridge. Not that many rooms, so we didn't meet anyone here.

The hostel was amazing, we had a lovely stay and its so central you couldn't ask for more. It was a shame that the shower in our bedroom didn't work, but they did discount the price accordingly and they are having major restoration work done, even this didn't stop it from being absolutely marvelous

nice place to stay in Madrid. the woman who runs the place was so kind! location is just perfect, right in the historic center and very silent at the same time. the rooms are ok, I mean if you don't like the hotel feeling, and prefer "old home" mood :) the apartment has 3 common bathrooms, good common kitchen, laundry washer and the wifi in the lobby, so I could easily stay there for a month or so if I need to :)

Residencia Alvaro is a very nice hostel. Great central Madrid location. You can walk to The Prado, Plaza Mayor, Plaza del Sol and many other sites of interest. There is also a Metro station only a few meters from the hostel. Our room was beautifully decorated, had its own sink and a T.V. too. The kitchen is very well equipped with all of the cooking utensils you'll ever need. The way they organize the use of pantry and refrigerator space for guests is nice. It is super clean too!

I'll stay here next time i visit Madrid! the location in excellent, only a few minutes from Plaza Mayor, the lady has been extra nice to us, our room and the bathrooms were clean. The hostel is really easy to find (very close to the metro station) and very quiet. Our room was close to the common room and the main door of the apartment and we didn't hear a single noise. Unless you're looking for a party hostel or a place where to meet new people, I would totally recommend this place!

Staff are great! Location is amazing! Right in the center of Madrid. You can literally walk almost anywhere without any problem. The rooms are very clean and cozy. The kitchen is extremely useful. There's a few produce markets and a grocery store right around the corner (can get great wine(s) for 2-3 Euro!!!). Cafe's and shops everywhere. Literally a 5 minute walk to Plaza Mayor and Puerta Del Sol.

More like a shared flat than a hostel and great if your are travelling with your partner or a close friend. Nice rooms, fully equipped kitchen and the feeling of living in Madrid and not in Hostel in Madrid. The Lady is very friendly.

Hostel was extremelly difficult to find, probably juts because we were arriving around midnight. For future travellers, it is door number 8 , and there is no sign on the building itself just a little "Resid. Alvaro" beside one of the buzzers...

Very nice family-run place. Mother doesn't speak much English but the young girl who is there during most of the day does. This is a very quiet come as you go type place, suited for all ages if you're not looking for the typical party hostel. I was there with my mother on vacation and it was perfect.

Excellent stay here if you want a place that is walking distance to everything, yet far enough from the hustle and bustle to sleep well at night. Very clean and safe. Great during the seasons when it is not hot in Europe, because no A/C. Great Stay!
