The entrance is filthy, full of empty bottles, dirty and full ash trays and unclean. The bedding is weathered and worn and totally not presentable for guests. The same goes for the towels. The pillows and duvet inners are filthy. It even gives a worse impression because the beds are not made and the bedding not even in the same colouring. This hostel has so much potential but it is in a neglected state and a little bit effort will benefit your profit. regards J.Theron

The best thing about this hostel is the price for the location. If that's all that matters, stay here. You should be aware that the mattresses are disgusting. The bathrooms weren't cleaned (the sheet in the bathroom hadn't been initial for the entire month of May). We also signed up for a 12-bed dorm and were put in a 16-bed dorm. It didn't matter because we were the only ones in the top floor room. Also, the staff was hard to find and then they were around, they were drinking with friends.

It got a bit rusty over the years (my previous comment is from three years ago when I stayed there for the first time), but still is good value for the price.

Very helpful staff who all speak english. Rooms are well sized, though thin walls mean at night you can hear everything in the rooms around you (use your imagination) and there was no hot water 2 of the 4 days i was there. That aside: great location: mins from main square and streets, great staff and cheap beer prices. rooms are quoted in euros on hostelworld which they adhoq convert to a hyrnia price when you arrive. I think they con you a bit oen the conversation, but it still works out cheap

The hostel is in very good location, very near to the city center - Rynok Square. You can go everywhere on foot. The shop with food is next door. The one disadvantage was that the electronic payment terminal didn't work...

No privacy in our room. Without cardigans. From other 3 rooms was a view directly to our bed.

Perfect location in the centre of the city, but not exactly modern (hence the name).

The hostel has six floors, but there is just one wi-fi router on the first floor, so the connection on the upper floors is worse or doesn't exist. One day the only router died and it took almost two days to buy a new router and install it... One day there were an electricity shortcut and the stairs were completely in dark and it took also two days to repair the electricity. The girls working there are extremely friendly (no complaints), but the owner is not trying to make the hostel better.

I stayed at Shevchenko in the end of february for 4 nights. Fortunately I had an opportunity to stay at friend's flat sometimes and sleep well. In hostel it gets so noisy when someone is going on stairs! even if person tries not to make any noise you still can hear one. it is not good for people who's difficult to fall asleep. Some one of cleaning staff few times (not just once!) turned off the heaters in my room when I was somewhere out exploring the city. Why??? I was freezed by coming back in

I enjoyed staying in Shevchenko as always, but personally I miss some guy who had worked there before. Time is running... I'll be back.

They lost the key to our room, so it was open 24/7. Good located in the center. Helpful staff

Close to town, easy walking distance. Staff weren't very helpful when we arrived, didn't even tell us there was a lounge/chill out area, laundry or anything! Didn't know which floor our room was on either. Room was nice though, 3 bed deluxe private, had private bathroom and separate toilet and a little balcony (with no railings). Could see how in summer the place might be more exciting as the foyer area is huge with lots of couches. Very quiet in winter.
