This hostel was alright, but waaaay too far away from the city centre. It's certainly not a 30 walk like the website suggests, it's about an hour! It is cheap, and you get what you pay for really. The wifi in the rooms is very poor also, it's slow and always cuts out. I certainly wouldn't stay here again if I ever return to Reykjavik.

Dear Christine Thank you for your stay! I understand the location of the City Hostel was not to your liking. However I am puzzled about the poor rating you gave us, since the location is not our fault; it's not like we can improve the location by just moving the whole building, can we :) We try to avoid misunderstandings about the location by explaining in detail where we are, right on this website under 'property information' and 'map & directions'. And, to most people, 3 km is a 30 minutes walk. Next time you come to Reykjavik make sure you check out the Downtown Hostel or our brand new Loft Hostel, right in the center of Reykjavik! I'm sure you would like it better there. On behalf of City Hostel reception, Joachim PS WiFi is free :)

It was truly value for money. The rooms shown in the photo make the room look small but they are decent size. To top it up the staff were very helpful. p.S: for those booking via this website note that the best price shown on the website is for members of the hostelling group so read the fine print before booking.

Dear Rahul Thank you so much for your stay and your feedback. Good thing to point out, that the prices shown are member prices. It's important to us that our guests get all the information before they book - to avoid bad surprises. The Reykjavik City Hostel is part of Hostelling International; HI-hostels are to be found all around the globe. You can become a member here at the reception while checking in. It pays to be a member if you spend more then 3 nights in a HI-hostel within a year (I am writing this for future guests that might read your review - I know you know all about it, Rahul). We hope to welcome you again. On behalf or City Hostel reception, Joachim

JUST STAY ONE NIGHT, DIDN'T EXPECTED MUCH. But it is out of our expectation, nice and clean. The only drawback is the breakfast is quite expensive to us. If you have time, goto supermarket and make your own meal.

Really enjoyed my stay here although its location isn't exactly in the city center its only a short ride on the number 14 across the street down town. For the price its excellent and the staff were very helpful.

Cleaner didn't clean our room, when she saw that the floor was dirty. She just took our garbage. Room was very cold and we put some heat and the cleaner came and put the heat down and when we came the room was cold. Location is not so good, you have to take bus to go everywhere and the buss is really expensive in reykjavik. Staff was polite and nice. We liked that the outdroor swimming pool was near. Kitchen was okay, only thing was that theres no towels to clean the tables?
