Hostel was okay. Nice big kitchen and dining area, very active with other hostelers eating/hanging out. No lockers available in the rooms. Staff were nice enough, but seemed generally disorganized and didn't all seem to know a lot about things around the city. Rooms and newer shower facilities were clean, but old shower room smelled quite bad and made the surrounding hallway rather unpleasant. For what you get, hostel prices are steep, but not many options in Bristol for budget travelers.

The Staff was perfect, friendly and polite The rooms had bad coverup of the streetlight, one room had no curtens, the other room curtens that where of no use. Both the showeers did not work, this was really bad, did not wash for three days because of that,

We stayed on NYE and there was an all night party going on at the lanes (nightclub/music venue) underneath, the walls were still vibrating with the club music at checkout at llam and partiers frequently were heard shouting "woohoo" from the garden. I also found some bites along my arm when I got home - I wonder if this is from bed bugs? Oh well, it was a cheap room and you get what you pay for, which is basically not very much.

Owner Comment (Show)
We are working with the Lanes to have tighter controls to respect the hostel guests much more in 2012, with soundproofing being fitted also. The NYE gig will NOT be repeated. We are checked regularly for bed bugs and there is definitely no sign of these in the hostel at the moment. Rentokil were checking here last week, our frames are all metal (bed bugs live in wooden frames) and we do not allow guests to use their own bedding to avoid transfer from other hostels.

I think the location is really really convenient. Restaurants and convenience stores are nearby. It is near city centre. The staff are helpful and nice. however, the room facilities have room to be improved. No table or desk or locker to put things inside. The new shower room is good but the old one is a bit smelly.

Location and staff are excellent. The bar and bowling is very nice except the one of the bathroom on the 2nd floor smelly.

Thanks for your feedback. There is an airlock under the showers on the second floor and a smell occurs when a shower has not been used for 24 hours. We are now turning on the showers at regular intervals during the day to prevent this smell and hope to have a total refurb in there by March.

The advertised deals with the bowling alley next door were not in place but otherwise an exelent place to sleep off a night out. Due to the noise of the bowling alley I advise against staying here if you just want to chill out.

Owner Comment (Show)
Our advertised deal is that there is a 20% discount on all pizzas, bowling and karaoke in the Lanes. If there is ever a problem with this please come directly to reception so we can resolve the issue whilst you are still here. We are going to have soundproofing work done in the Lanes in February to minimise noise to the hostel.

It is unheated during the day, so if you come back wet and cold, it isn't very nice. Showers are sometimes cold too.

Second time that I've stayed here and I imagine I will stay again. How well you sleep does depend on which side of the building you sleep on. I stayed on a Tuesday night and it was still noisy past midnight. I stayed in a different room the previous time which I preferred but this latest experience has not put me off of staying there. Great location, ditto on the price and helpful staff.

Alright hostel..got there on the last saturday of november which is apparently a big night there, so the bar was packed. Good fun. Sunday was very quiet. I liked the fact there were private toilets and showers, but the shower water was cold. No plugs inside the rooms and the lighting was terrible.

I have appreciated my stay at Rock n Bowl because the beds were really comfy and the location excellent. Otherwise, nothing was more than average. Most of their staff cant speak a good English so its hard to communication with them, for young people it may not be the best place to meet people of 18-25. There are many people above 45.. No breakfast and we must put the bed sheets by ourselves. Maybe its the price to pay to stay in the city centre but at this price they could do better...

The hostel was overall alright but the atmosphere was cold and unpersonal. Our double room was bare and empty, just a bed and a table, not even a lamp to read a newspaper. A black cat coming on the window ledge was the only real attraction: pity that was something unrelated to SoBo hostel. Compared to average, prices are good, but they will try every trick to make money (e.g. adding 5% if you don't pay the precise amount in cash, asking to postpone your checkout for money).

The staff we wonderfully helpful, and quite aware of the happenings of the hostel. The rooms were clean, The bathrooms were good but the toilets in the seperate cubicles were very yuck. But the ones with the showers were fine, very clean. The band, bar and bowling lanes which were noisy on the ground entrance, were not an problem with getting to sleep, although i was on the second floor. Would stay here again :)

This is a Party Hostel. If you want a quiet and very clean place, stay somewhere else. But I enjoyed my stay! Very helpfull staff, nice people that I met, googd location (besides beeing over a bowling lane with live music).

I spent there Wednesday night and I will never come back there again! It was extremely noisy until 1 am. Unable to fall asleep! I went to reception to speak to hostel staff, but they were unhelpful, with silly smile on their faces told me they are not able to do anything with the loud music. The lock to my room was broken. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Generally very bad experience. Good advice to all who consider to book a room there: you can find better place for the same money! Do not go there!

Stayed one night on a Wednesday. Very, very noisy, not just from the bar downstairs, even with ear plugs. Hostel basic but adequate.

We have spoken to the Lanes downstairs and they have promised us that they will be more considerate to hostel guests in the future.

OK to put it bluntly, the Rock n Bowl motel was great place to stay. My room-mates were really friendly and down to earth. The staff themselves were very helpful too. Not just after my money like most places! the mix cast of people staying their were nice and approachable. my only criticism of the place is this, they have good luggage storage for your valuables & suitcases but it would have been better if they also had lockers in the dorms. also too many loud parties in the bar downstairs.
