This was by far the best hostel I stayed at during my months traveling. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful whilst the hostel itself is located in the perfect location for exploring Georgetown and the surrounding areas. If getting to Georgetown by bus, get off at Butterworth station and use the ferry as it puts you much closer to the hostel than the bus station on the island itself. Overall, a great place to stay!
Nice hostel in the main tourist part of town but close to most things and good bus links. All the facilities you need light lamp curtain and added bonus of kitchen and on site washing. Barbara is very helpful and cheery. A good comfortable stay with soft beds!!
Beds comfortable and noise-free, complete with privacy curtain and international sockets, reading light. Excellent location. Top hostel.
A lovely little place in a great location (especially if you love Indian good). It was great how in the dorms there were curtains around the bed to give you maximum privacy. AC was powerful and you could turn it on whenever you wanted it. The owner was very friendly and seemed to genuinely care about going a guests. The lady that checked me in in the evening was super welcoming.
This is a really great place. It is a little removed from the backpacking alley and love lane, but a 5 minute walk from there tops. The facilities are some of the best I've been in. The beds are super comfortable with a little shelf and plug right next to the bed. The curtain gives you a lot of privacy and helps with the sunlight. The showers are excellent as well. There are lockers for everyone. If you are coming at an odd hour, confirm someone will be awake. The 24 hour reception is weak.
This is the best hostel i have stayed! The staff is friendly and answer are your question. Breakfast is super. You get eggs and jam and toast. The place is spotless clean. The rooms are greath. The beds are super and very good matrass. All the rooms are aircontitiond. Its a easy place to meet people. You can choose to travel alone or join the other roomies to have dinner. If you travel alone or with a group, the nicest place to stay. I recommand it for everybody.near to all facilities you need.
The staff is excellent. Very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again!
Everything is good except the dorm is a little bit small, there's nothing you can do but sleep.
Great location, and very calm atmosphere. Not the place for parties. The problem was it smelled like durian for few nights I stayed. I wish they figured out who brought in the durian.
AWESOME! Stayed at the 4-room female dorm in Room mates 2 and the 8 room mix form in Roommates 1. Clean rooms and very comfortable beds. Wifi is very quick as well. Love the fact that there's a charging point and a lamp at each bed side. And they provide breakfast. Most importantly very friendly and accommodating staff - Loved my time there. RECOMMEND.

Really excellent value all around. The staff was super nice and helpful. Would recommend staying here. Quiet and laid back.
Staff did not speak much English, but were quite helpful nonetheless. Was an enjoyable stay, but there were a number of bugs both downstairs and in the room that gave us a number of bites.
Our impression: a nice, cosy hostel! We were with three friends and had an amazing stay in Penang's roommate. The location of the hostel was really close to the big street Chulia Lebah with a lot of foot stalls. We were sent to Roommates 2, but that was just across the street. The room was pretty ok, absolutely not hot during night. All parts of the hostel were really clean: showers, toilet, corridor, kitchen. Free breakfast, towels to rent and pretty nice staff who arranged a lot for us.

Some of the stuff spoke good English, unfortunately most of the time we were stuck with staff who couldn't understand a word we were saying which was very frustrating when trying to organise something. Staff not always available. Promised 'ultra speed WiFi', 90% of the time it didn't work at all. No laundry facilities even thought it states there are. Blanket too small.Good that bed has individual light, socket, and curtain. Showers hot and clean, rooms are kept cool and clean.
No locks on doors. Very basic. Nice staff. Not much in the way of social scene, but that's OK the bars are right there.
Roommates Penang is a hostel built by someone who knows what travelers want. Each bed had a curtain for privacy, a personal outlet, and a reading lamp. There were small lockers right outside the room for valuables. And the staff was super friendly and accommodating. The location is great for those looking to hangout in the city or catch the nearby 101 bus to the beaches.
Roommates has such a friendly warm atmostphere created by the staff, Yentl, Ryan and the owner P.K. We were introduced to many tourist attractions in Penang. Free maps are always on the shelf. I liked the people the most. Yentl was very cool with her dances. Ryan was also helpful in showing directions. And P.K., the owner, who knows a lot about Penang and can talk about every topic, was a wise and warm-hearted gentleman. I felt like I was home when staying there.
