The atmosphere was great, and very clean, nice staff and nice toilets. But the beds were very hard, my back hurt, and the pillows were also bad, to small a kitchen, fridge and almost no dining area for so many people. Very fast and free wi-fi, and good with the fan in the rooms. Close to tourist things, i-site and town. Please get a can-opener and lower the price on laundry.

Good central location just beside the bus stop. Helpful staff. Generally clean. Good value hostel.

Party hostel

The staff here is SO lovely and very helpful. The common area is small but cozy and there always seemed to be a movie playing. It's a good location, mid way between the lake and town center. Probably my only complaint would be that the beds were really uncomfortable, the kind where you can feel the springs, but all else considered I had a good time at this hostel!

Small but clean and nice, love that it's right next to the bus station. The back patio is great at any time of day and the free WiFi is a huge bonus even though it goes out occasionally but some rooms reach the free Spark WiFi from the bus station. Bathrooms were always clean and there were no Marjory offensive odors like I've had in others. Generally people were nice but not super outgoing or partiers from what I could tell in my 4 nights there. Very chill, free coffee is also big bonus.

you have to get used to the smell of the town. at daytime, it's okay, at nighttime it's almost unbearable - I woke up because of the smelliness. but that has nothing to do with the hostel itself which is absolutely fine. it's on the the high street, very close to the bus stops in front of the i-site. rooms are tidy and spacious, with an extra laundry rack at each bed and a lockable little box under the beds. kitchen is linked to common room and outside area. the staff was very helpful! thanks!

Ideal location next to i-site and pubs. Stayed in a twin room and it was really quiet (a real bonus over crash palace). The room itself wasn't very nice though with only a skylight (can't see it at all from bottom bunk and can see it way too much from top bunk haha) and the carpet in need of an update but it seemed clean enough. Room was secure and staff helpful. Good for a quiet nights sleep in the centre but I wouldn't spend a long time staying there.

A pretty average hostel, to be honest. One member of staff was lovely, the other that we encountered was a little rude. We had to remind them in the evening that we had no bed sheets (even though we were told it would be 'soon' at midday). The common room is quite small and chaotic, but has nice facilities. The shared bathroom was fine, and the bedroom was comfortable enough, but we probably wouldn't stay here again - there were nicer looking places close by.

The kitchen was filthy with spilt food on the work tops, cooked pasta pieces in one of the sinks, dirty pots left lying about. One of the girls on reception was ok the other was quite rude and not very helpful, and she also forgot to give us a message from our rafting company which meant we stood outside for an hour waiting for them. Toilets and showers were not very clean. The worst hostel I have stayed at anywhere in the world.

Nice hostel, friendly staff and free pasta, rice and WiFi. TV with many movies.

All the things is good in here! The staffs are helpful especially morning shift that one. The female dorm is good to hv a big window..clean and not small. But the first day hv some roadwork outside so is noisy but not their problem. The main problem is no hot shower! Just cold! And I asked one of the staff she just said you can let the water go for 5 mins, then you will got. But after 5mins is my body get used to cold water. Anyways still good to stay in here if you don't mind cold shower.

We travelled to Rotorua by bus so the location was very handy - only a couple of metres away from the coach bus stop and info centre. We thought that although the twin room was basic, it was still good value for money. The hot water from the shower was a little unpredictable.

The lounge area was disappointing. People shouldn't be allowed to sleep there; if people want to sleep, tell them to go to their rooms. We walked in for the first time and saw 5 people just passed out in random places. It made the place feel very lousy. Also, the noise regulation. What the hell? I couldn't sleep at all because people were constantly shouting, playing music, and slamming doors and banging things against the walls. This was my least favorite place to stay during my time in NZ.

The room had no air ventilation at all and it was impossible to sleep due to the heat and stuffiness. The top bunk was was way too close to the roof and very uncomfortable.

Stuff was very friendly and helpful, Sara helped me out with here recommendations and advices where to go and what to do. Hostel is very clean, they do cleaning of bathrooms 3 times a day, if necessary even more. Overall very good experience!

Too small of a common area for the size of the hostel. There is only one fridge and during dinner time not enough cooking supplies/space

Friendly atmosphere, clean rooms, warm even in the middle of winter, very helpful staff, literally in the middle of the town, wifi working without any problems, computers available.

The kitchen area was poorly arranged and too cramped without enough stovetops to cope with busy mealtime periods. It would be better to get rid of the TV area with couches and replace it with tables and chairs so that people could eat their meals in comfort. The TV was playing too loud all the time. The courtyard area was a good idea, but it should also be a non-smoking area. Better labelling of recycling bins would encourage their use. Male bathroom lights were not working for 2 days.

Don't stay here unless you have to.

Needs a facelift. The carpets are dingy and frayed and worn. Could do with brightening the place up a bit. The staff didn't really seem to care, apart from the one on reception who I must say was extremely friendly, happy and helpful!! Couldn't fault her at all. Lovely person. The bathrooms were really quite dirty, especially around the sinks with a large build up of scum around/on the hand basins. Felt dirty whenever had to go in there. Was glad not to be staying too long.
