This is the best hostel in Edinburgh! Great atmosphere, clean and great facilities! Perfect location!

This hostel is wonderful! Great character, inexpensive, and sits right on the Royal Mile. There is no bar attached, which can be a good thing-- the hostel stays a pretty quiet, relaxed place. I stayed in the room "Gotham City," it was an incredible room. Two nice chairs, and a massive window that opens right to the street. I spent many hours simply sitting on the windowsill and watching the people go by. Such a nice place.

The staff were nice, however the room I was in smelt musty. I told the staff and they sprayed some nice smelling stuff but it didn't fix the musty smell. I think the rooms need to be painted and given a proper clean. There were only two toilets & two showers for all the girls in the hostel, and the showers are tiny little spaces with no ventilation. There was free wifi in the reception area, & free luggage storage, but people could wander in and out and no one would really notice. Ok value.

Some of the staff members were really helpful and friendly while others were not so much. Did not care for the showers but were decent and the room smelled kinda damp, when the problem was brought up to staff they sprayed something but after a couple of hours the smell was back. Overall I would stay there again, great location! Just not the best hostel I've ever stayed at.

Everything was great. The only suggestion I would have is that there should be more secure luggage store which currently is an open space where you can drop your stuff in quite insecure way.

I stayed there for two nights in a 4 people dorm. It was very decent for the price, good beds and a nice breakfast for only 2 pounds. Definitely recommended for budget travelers.

Great location! All of the major attractions were within walking distance. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They had very few bathrooms, so showering and using the toilet was difficult at times.

Really great little place right on the Royal Mile (obviously). Comfy and cosy with lots of long term visitors it seemed, who were really nice and good for a chat.

Royal Mile Backpackers was generally a good experience. The one exception to this was the staff. The worst was when we had to catch an early morning train from Haymarket Station. We asked the woman at reception how best to get there, but she had never heard of Haymarket Station and initially told us it wasn't in Edinburgh, couldn't answer our questions even when using the internet, and was unfriendly. They should really train their people better -- she caused so much unnecessary stress.

Small, clean hostel in the heart of the city with very peaceful atmosphere. The small things that cheered me up: FREE lockers for everybody, toilet paper was never missing, hygienic, closable showers, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds. If you can't take the noise coming from the street do not choose this hostel, it can be loud in the night because of the location. (Which is perfect btw) In short: excellent hostel!
