Very friendly staff, super personable and helpful. Good breakfast for the cost (deluxe meal = 2.30 pounds, and probably the cheapest breakfast you'll find). Excellent location, close to bus station & easy to walk to all sites. Hostel overall was very clean and cozy. They have funny names for the rooms and beds, it made it more interesting :) Our only complaint is the kitchen - well stocked with cooking supplies and utensils but we were unable to boil water for pasta with the burners.

The staff were so lovely and helpful. The location is great and the hostel has a really welcoming and cosy atmosphere. A great place to stay in Edinburgh!

I loved the hostel so much I kept extending my stay. I was here during a quiet time I think, there weren't many people. My room was clean and comfortable, although the street noises were really really loud some nights I needed to dig for my ear plugs. It probably isn't the best hostel to meet people or party, but I wasn't here for the pub crawl on Thursday's so wouldn't know. The location is the absolute best and the staff are extremely kind. Showers were hot.

Nice little hoste in the middle of the old town. Nothing special but if you're just after a bed for the night then this is a good choice

Comfortable beds, ok showers, almost impossible to cook something since the kitchen facilities are a hot plate and microwave. Some staff were very very nice, 2 were extremely grouchy and annoyed when asked anything since i was interrupting their heavy metal music that was blasting. Great location.

The hostel is nice. Good things : Great location, plenty of plugs (really useful), quite clean, lockers, nice team, ... Bad things : 4 showers (2 for girls, 2 for boys) for the entire floor, sheets not really clean (mine haven't been changed), no lights for bed (pity if you want to read in the evening).

I liked staying in Royal Mile backpackers. It's good value for money. It's simple and convenient. There are lots of details in the room (sockets, lockers), on the bed (like hooks to hang your stuff), in the bathroom that make girls stay a lot easier. The things in the hostel are not new but they are clean. That creates home-like atmosphere. This and the fact that it's smaller hostel made me like it better than Castle Rock, which for me has way too many people...

Just two shower stalls and two toilets(ladies)is defo not enough for the whole hostel! Such a pain to wait for fellow backpackers to finish using it! But character is great, love the way they name their rooms and the beds by themes. So much more creative than "bed A/ B/ C"! Location is unbeatable. Just 5 minutes walk to Edinburgh castle and other tourist spots.

Perfect location for a hostel within walking distance of all the main attractions and nightlife. Friendly staff and a very homely atmosphere. Lockers in the rooms and clean bathrooms. Would recommend this hostel to others.

Had an amazing time there. Looks like it`s more laid back than its twin brother, the High Street Hostel. It felt like Royal Mile Backpackers was more convenient for more laid back people like, and it was perfect. Clean beds and clean (and hot!) showers all the time. Can`t tell about the other rooms, but mine was big. Would definitely stay there again.

The hostel is nice and clean, staff is friendly, location absolutely superb. Towel hire is very cheap at 20p, and they have lockers in rooms. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Please do not pay any attention on my ratings. The only thing I can say something about is the location, which is perfect. But: the hostel was overbooked, so I had to move to another hostel. As a compensation, I got my bed cheaper and a free breakfast in the other hostel at the other end of the Royal Mile. Good solution, satisfied customer :)

Its a quite small hostel near the Royal Mile, perfect location. But the kitchen is to small to cook (max. 2 persons at the same time can cook) and the staff is partly quite unfriendly. The rooms are ok. You have only one bathroom for girls and one for boys with two showers and two toilets. One shower was over my 2-nights-stay only cold and it seemed that no one of the staff was interested in it. The really nice thing is the cosy fireplace next to the entrance.

i was sleeping on top on the bunk bed and it is a bit awkward to get on with its tiny ladder and i would kind of feel safer with the fence on side of the upper bed.

Very old facilities, couches falling apart, dirty rooms (bathrooms were kind of ok, though), sheets and linen over-worn, with holes in them, breakfast was just some bread slices, cereal and jam set aside on a corner in the kitchen, which was really messy.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in! Nice and cozy and full of character, the friendliest staff, and really easy to meet people. The themed rooms, free tea, bookshelf full of books and hairdryer in the bathroom were all nice touches :). There was even a guitar kicking around that you could play! This hostel really made you feel at home, much more so than the large institutional hostels. Could just use a computer, that's all :)
