The location can't be beat. It's a stone's throw away from all of the cooler bars/restaurants and within walking distance of all of the various UNESCO World Heritage sites that George Town has to offer. Staff is friendly, coffee/tea flows all day, and the atmosphere is perfectly fine - I'm not sure what all the negative comments about the atmosphere are about. Solid place, would visit again!

The WIFI did not work in the rooms unfortunately. There was no social/common area and absolutely nowhere for social interaction between guests.

My stay at ryokan was good but not enjoyable, mostly because the staff just doesn't care at all and are on there phone most of the time. The walls are paper thin and you will hear every noise. Big group of Thai and Malay people stay here and they make a lot of noise and walking between rooms. Toilets were wet the whole time, by the Asian bum guns. Beds were quite comfortable but it felt like there was an earthquake everytime someone walked down the corridor. Stay around love lane instead!

The hostel itself is nice but it's very popular with the Asian travellers, I was the only non Asian during my stay. It lucked of atmosphere.

The place is clean, cosy and well maintained. Free breakfast was not bad. Restrict number of travellers in big groups. We happened to stay beside their room and their noise volume was quite high till at least 230am.

clean and comfy rooms, strong wifi, free towels, ideal location, big lockers, excellent showers and clean toilets... this is a super nice hostel but sadly suffers from a lack of atmosphere! met no one here, did not find it social, and thought the common areas are a bit dreary and poorly lit. also, no refunds, so if you decide to cancel and move elsewhere you lose the money. maybe it was a penang/low season thing, don't know, but wouldn't recommend to the solo traveler. great place otherwise

Hostel was fine, clean, modern and comfy. Only downside was total lack of atmosphere. However, the hostel seemed fairly quiet so I might have just visited during low season. Staff were really friendly and spoke great English.

Should have a locker for shoes.

I was totally disappointed by this hostel since I was expecting something else due to the great reviews. The hostel has no atmosphere at all. The breakfast is really bad. The bathroom did not seem very clean, the aircon was very old and the rooms had a weird smell. I have stayed in other hostels in penang which were a million times better.

Very nice hostel, the rooms and beds are really good, the showers are good and clean but toilets pretty dirty. The staff was helpful and the breakfast simple but good. The location is just perfect. Not far from things to see and places to eat or drink, and really close to a nice foodcourt (Red Garden).

Really nice hostel. Super clean, good breakfast and great location!

Breakfast wasn't as amazing as suggested. But the hostel was nice and great location and the air con worked (too!) well.

Very clean and secure with good facilities (lockers and bed lamp), the staff were really friendly and helpful. Close to the main area of Georgetown and they had maps and brochures for you to look through. Free drinking water and breakfast available. Only downside was that there wasn't much atmosphere but that could have been due to the large group that was staying there at the time.

Really good hostel that provide a lot for you for a great price. Free cookies and breakfast :) I stayed in the cheapest dorm which is basically the same as the slightly more expensive ones so you don't need to pay more, close to the centre of George Town and the staff can help with getting buses around Penang. Really nice hostel!

Very good hostel!

Excellent friendly staff who were always more than willing to help! Really clean and friendly place and the breakfast was awesome!
