I enjoyed staying at Ryokan Sanki as it was a different experience to normal hotels and hostels. The traditional room was clean and had a lot of atmosphere and the owner was very nice. There are shops and restaurants nearby though not a lot are open for breakfast. Nearest train station is five minutes walk and from there it is one stop from Kyoto Station. One drawback is that there is only one common shower so it may be inconvenient at peak times.

We stayed at Ryokan Sanki for 3 nights, having two tatami rooms with shared bath. Other than the very cramped toilet areas and very steep stairs already mentioned by others- the rooms are very spacious, the tatami mats throughout are very comfortable to walk on and the whole place is really authentic and charming. Apparently it has been a family ryokan for at least two generations (and with her family for at least 3). I can't say enough good things about this place!

This place was really lovely. It wasn't super centrally located but it is close to a both a bus and train station and it was nice being away from the hustle and bustle and experiencing a bit of real Kyoto. The room was lovely and everything was very clean. I would recommend this place!

Very nice place, well located in some old district of Kyoto. You will find baths and restaurant all around and an awesome café right in front of the Ryokan. It's 10 minutes walk to the nearest bus stop or 5 minutes walk to the train station. 20 minutes bus ride to Gion or Kinkakuji. 10 minutes bus ride to the Kyoto main station.

We had a superb stay at Ryokan Sanki. The Ryokan was is very traditional, you can imagine people staying there through the generations. It was very comfortable and we felt so welcome when we arrived, it had a lovely feel. The room was lovely and warm and we were supplied with everything we could possibly need.

Totally perfect stay at Ryokan Sanki! It's the best place, with the most kind & wonderful host. Tatami floors, comfy futons, warm duvets, Yukata (lightweight kimono) and green tea - all the Kyoto stuff! Fantastic location in quiet backstreets, minutes from JR station (1 stop to Kyoto station). Loads of great restaurants & cafes nearby, walking distance to lots of sites & easy bus connections to the rest. Plus kind gift of free tickets to the amazing local baths every night of our stay. Perfect!

For those who seek the authentic japanese experience this is. God choice. The area is more quiet and farther away from the popular areas. The lady in charge is helpful and kind but doesn't speak engliah at all I think. We didn't find any showers but got a freepass to a traditonal japanese sentoo righy around the coener which was quite funny experience. Would recommend for one night stay to get the ecperience. Place is close to train station so easy access to Kyoto JR station.
