The location is very good, as it is near the station. The building is really nice!! It's clean and functional. The staff is helpful. It was pretty quiet when I was there, but I liked it very much.

Nice place to stay. It's kept really clean and everything has been done up really nicely. Breakfast is included, but beware there is no kitchen, which is a bit annoying. It's almost more like a B

Fantastic oldstyle decor. Not worn but old fashioned. Nice breakfast. Cool place. Friendly staff. Got a bunch of recomendations on what to see. Close to it all. Go! Just go!! :)

A very clean and professional hostel in a good location. Not much atmosphere if you are travelling alone, but a great location within walking distance to the main attractions of York. There is no lift and the stairs are narrow, so beware if travelling with heavy luggage and you are on floor 2 or 3!

Overall a good hostel where you get what you pay for. There was one toilet/shower for a room of 14 people which wasn't quite enough in the morning. The locks on both mine and my friends baggage lockers didn't work. Beautiful building in a great location. Don't drink the "orange juice"

I would describe the venue as having the worst of a hotel (in spite of its decorative charm) plus the worst of a hostel. Some of its negative features were: no common room to eat or drink your own stuff (hence there is no hostel-like atmosphere), no kitchen to prepare your own food, no wifi in the rooms, the sole bathroom in our dorm (14-beds) was not enough for so many people, the breakfast was incomplete (no bread), etc.

I had a nice stay at Safestay in York. The hostel is within a 10 mns walk from the city centre, the staff is helpful, the rooms are clean and spacious. The only drawback is that there are no cooking facilities but I recommend this place.

A nice hostel in a lovely building. Centrally located. A free breakfast is a bonus, pretty rare in English hostels actually.

The hostel is located in extremely strategic area. I was staying in 14mixed dormitory with 7 other guests at that time. The room was spacious with toilet and bathroom inside, very convinient. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hostel has big common area. And you can leave ur luggage after check out. The minus things include no common kitchen for cooking and it was a bit noisy outside. But overall, I really enjoyed my stay and definately recommend this hostel..

Good for one night, though the 14 bed dorm room gets quite hot! Probably needs another toilet and shower in the big room.

This hostel is really nice! Clean, large, airy rooms with beautiful high ceilings, lockers under the beds, clean linen, not crowded at all, with large windows! The wifi is fast, security good, helpful staff members, and a really good location close to the main streets. I would definitely stay here again!

Everything is perfect, staff very friendly

The hostel was very clean, although the bathrooms get pretty stuffy and could use better ventilation. The staff was very accommodating. The location is great, walking distance to everything in the city. They have a breakfast which is pretty cool, although there is no kitchen access for cooking your own meals. The hostel is very pretty, and they have information on it's history which I thought was pretty neat. Wifi only works in the lounge, but the lounge is very cozy and there is tons of space.

near train station and old town, room is clean and every room is ensuite, offer free breakfast and wifi, staff is friendly. highly recommended this hostel to others

Internet only works in common room (and only when there are very few people on their iphones), which by the way only has room for about 12 people. The couches in the common room are lovely, comfortable, old leather ones though. The atmosphere here was not good, and may be due to the cramped common room and the fact that we had huge groups of teenage germans and spanish students staying when i was there. It is in quiet location of town so you can get sleep, but close enough to walk to anywhere

Lovely old building, the plaques explaining the history of each room were a particularly nice touch.

The bathroom was literally a closest. The staff were not friendly or helpful. It was not worth the money I paid for it.

More suited to groups then solo travellers. When we stayed the card keys were not working however the staff were happy to let you into your room whenever so it was of no real inconvenience. Breakfast was good but v busy, as would be expected.
