Great place to stay in Varanasi. Great value for money, clean, not too far from the Gath's (15 minutes walking), free Wi-Fi (sometimes it just works on the first floor), the owner and his son are lovely people and will help you in anything you need to explore the city.
Out of the old town which some like for being away from the madness, but it means that in order to get anywhere, you have to walk along the BUSY streets, so enduring the madness on the way there AND back. Staying central would make for a quicker relief from the chaos. Only place in India that we had to buy toilet paper - not very impressed. Beds rather hard. No common area. Wifi only on one floor. Arranged transport much more expensive. Man checking us in was childish and grumpy.
Good value for the money. You have to walk 10-15 minutes to get to the ghats and the main attractions, but the place is very cheap and clean so it worth it. They also have a laundry service and they can cook for you on demand. Hot sower was working properly. The only negative point I would mention is that the owner of the place can have very wierd reactions like he can get angry very quickly for nothing. But his son is very nice and helpfull.
Nice, away from the ghats. Good value for money.
For $4 a night, you're not going to get a better deal. Very friendly family. If you enjoy authenticity and culture, spend hours talking to the owner and his family. They'll give you real insights into the city of Varanasi and the people of India.
Poor value for money. I paid 400R for a very basic room, hard bed, an unclean bathroom and a shower that didn't work so I had a bucket bath. Wifi very unreliable and when working only available in reception area. Good location but I'm sure there are better guesthouses for the same money in local area.
It's hard to leave a review for third place when the owners are so earnest, but the place has nothing going for it. Given the number of positive reviews, which I followed to get here I felt it is over-rated. I haven't stayed elsewhere in Varanasi, so maybe it's relatively ok value, but compared with the ten other places I've stayed in the north this place doesn't measure up.
15 min walking distance from ghats. Clean and quiet. Nothing special but nice. We recommand for this price. Staff very helpful.
Very peaceful, located walking distance away from the ghats so you can get a decent night's sleep. The family that own the guest house are very friendly and helpful when it comes to what to see and do in Varanasi and when arranging onward travel. For the price, you can't go wrong.
Nicest guesthouse ever! Family-run biz where dad and son do everything they can to make sure you have a pleasant stay in chaotic Varanasi. Great location outside the ghats; it's near the main road (Luxa Road), so it's accessible to many shops and 2 nice restaurants, Silver Spoon and a place inside nearby PDR mall (both non-veg), and only 10 min walk to Dasaswamedh Ghat. Staff will help you arrange transportation services, money exchange, laundry, and more for good prices. Clean room too!
Great place! Very uncommercialized. Dad and son are really nice, with great suggestions on where/what to eat, things to do, and offer insight into their culture and life in Varanasi. Rooftop is relaxing with a nice view of the neighborhood. The facilities are barebones, which is completely fine. The shower is not warm at all. Basically, if you don't mind camping conditions, you'll like the place. If you're expecting more or will throw a hissy fit over a cold shower, then look elsewhere.
I'm really happy I found this hostel! The family that runs the guest house was fantastic - I found them very trustworthy and helpful, and I really felt welcome. They gave great advice on where to go, and especially on what things should cost. It really helped me out! I will definitely be recommending Sagar Guest House to all of my friends who visit Varanasi.
Wonderful stay. I stayed two days with my girlfriend. This is a peaceful place in the crowded and challenging Varanasi. The staff, father and son, are very helpful and interested by their guests. As per the location, the guest house has the advantage to be between the ghats and other interesting spots (monkey temple, BHU...). Restaurants and pharmacies near by.

Staffs were really friendly and will help you with their best effort. Showed me all the directions and price for tuktuk. Spacey room, nice hot shower and very clean. Highly recommended at very reasonable price. Location is a bit of a distance from Ganga river but you will appreciate the calmness of that.
The owners here will make sure that your experience in Varanasi is a good one. They are extremely personable, kind, and genuinely interested in your experience at their hotel. Ask them any question you have about India, and they are sure to give you a valuable answer. They will help you with logistics and the planning of your India trip. The rooms are spacious with nice little balconies, the food (made upon request) is delicious and very homey. Homemade chai as you sit on your balcony is great.
The Hostel is at 10min walk from the main gat, it's not far at all and the neighberhood is really nice, not so loud and full of tourists. The value for the money is ok, do not expect a hot shower. The manager is really nice and helpful.
our stay at Sagar Guest house was very pleasant! It was money well spent. We recieved excellent help from the owner, both in what to do in Varanasi and transport to and from the hostel! They are very friendly and charmig. Cheap, clean and safe.
