Staff were not rude, they just weren't very helpful. Close to lots of bars and restaurants.
Its right on the strip of things to do in kanchanaburi, a pretty bare bones operation but nothing too bad to say. But there was alot of mosquitos getting in from the bathroom. I would suggest not staying here unless you have your own mosquito net
Really nice little hostel. Clean, safe rooms looking out onto a tropical courtyard. Staff were so friendly and always very helpful. Just to be aware, the night we stayed there the AC was on the blink and I wouldn't rely on always getting hot water. Definitely go on the day tours the staff recommend. Lovely break away from BKK. Check out the vegan/vegetarian restaurant on that road. Amazing food and they do thai cookery classes. Turn right out of Sam's and continue down the road 5mins on the left
Pretty simple place. Clean and tidy. Towels provided. Hot water and air con. TV didn't work. Staff seemed miserable mostly. Atmosphere totally dead. They had a dog who had become a mother and was hiding her pups somewhere close by and if you walked past would aggressively bark and run at you. Not funny, and scary. Could easily have bitten someone. Staff laughed it off rather than do anything...like move the pups away from the public areas. Stupid.
We read some bad reviews on this guesthouse on hostelworld.com but as the budget was tight we went there anyway - and boy, were we in for a surprise! The room was big and clean, same for the comfortable bed. Also the en suite bathroom left nothing to be desired. The staff must have read the bad reviews, as they were very friendly and helpful. One of the cheapest guesthouses we've stayed at on our 5-week-trip but at the same time on of the best!
Good accomodation, I would definetely return to this place. In contrast to the reviews I read earlier, during my stay all day friendly English speaking staff, except for the night guard.
the room we got was dirty, the walls had holes, the bed unconfortable and the bathroom really small and dirty
About the SAMS RIVER RAFTHOUSE: First we spent our first night in a 800 baht room (for two persons): it was completely ok and the bathroom was clean, we had a balcony, fridge, TV and AC! The next 2 nights we spent the nights in a 600 baht room: The beds were ok, but the bathroom was disgusting - the worst!! There is a huge difference between the 800 and the 600 baht room! So its definitely worth it to pay 200 baht more/night. However we hardly saw the personnel, which was awkward.
Had it not been for the unhelpful and unwelcoming staff, I would have given a high rating. The location is good, the rooms are air conditioned and the wifi is good. However, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel like a chore, and when we asked for information/maps/help she would irritably say 'I don't know' or shove tourist trap leaflets under our nose. Everything else about this hostel is very good, the tropical sounds in the garden at night are very peaceful.
the houses are in a wonderful location. It was amazing to be there during the day. Lovely place.
