Best kitchen and bathroom facilities I have seen anywhere. Very nice location overlooking the plaza. The downside, and unfortunately it is a pet hate of mine...too many beds in the dorms! There is hardly enough floor space to put down six big backpacks, and some rooms even have those horrid three tier bunks. Lockers are also inadequate and not enough to go round as some are broken. Real shame, as otherwise this hostel would be perfect, but it was enough to put me off staying another night.

WE LOVE SAM'S! All staff really friendly, helpful and fun. Arrived and felt like we were at home it is amazing, pool a definite plus too. Loads of activites to do around San Gil but also a great place to hang out and chill. All in all an absolutely perfect hostel to finish our trip in South America - we would recommend to anyone!

One of the best hostels I've stayed at in South America. Amazing location and a terrace to make the most of plaza views and a pool! Lovely staff and coffee on the boil all day. Easy to organise activities and a good place to meet people.

Stayed in both of SAMs hostels, and they're both great. Plenty of fun people, activities easily arranged from reception. DOnt miss his restaurant, specifically the filet and ribs.

Without a doubt 1 of the nicest hostels I've stayed in, in all of S.America. Really clean, great facilities, all the activities organised through the hostel are excellent value. The restaurant is really good value and absolutely delicious. Sam is a gentleman, always willing to provide help and advice, I haven't met somebody as helpful and friendly in a long time. I could not recommend this hostel more.

Sam's hostel is immense. Small enough that you know everybody in the hostel, super clean, great facilities, super great kitchen and location and really cool staff in Sam and Ella. Would really recommend for anybody sick of the huge party hostels in Colombia. If only there were more of these little gems about. Thanks for everything guys!

nice clean hostel with friendly staff and a nice building right in the center of town. some fun tours to be had and the pool is a nice touch. nice kitchen but they need more things to cook with. good internet and dvds. down side is the bunks are 3 high, although the top isnt too bad but it can get hot up there. the showers have hot water for around 30 sec and after that its cold. all in all a nice hotel and would stay again.

I was there during carnaval, so it was very quiet. Still the hostel was great, very clean, and right in the center of San Gil. The pool is nice as well, very refreshing!

This was a really great hostel. It was clean, the pool is great, the location is right on the main square and the staff are really helpful especially Ella!!! I can´t compare it to others in San Gil but I can compare to other´s throughout colombia, and for a downtown city hostel, this is one of the better ones I´ve come across . Stay in a private room with the balcony that looks out over the main square. The only downer was the no outside drinks rule they have.

Had such a good time staying here and enjoying all of the adventure pursuits around San Gil. Perfect location right on the town square with a great tradition of relaxed street drinking in the evening. Seemed to attract a nice crowd of people too. Friendly staff and good communal area with inside and outside seating and a decent kitchen. Saw very few people use the small, cold pool while I was there but who cares when there are grade 5 rapids to go rafting on?
