Great location, great owners. Showers and toilets leaved little to be desired. Cold showers (thank goodness too hot for hot showers!) Cute and feisty house cat. So unenjoyable. Really surprised this scores so highly - where have people been staying, to think this is good?! This was a real disappointment - dirty towels, mats of hair in the scummy showers, filthy walls, hard beds, no soap anywhere, grumpy girl on reception. Doable for one night, but do yourselves a favour and don't stay any longer than that - you'll need a shower by then at any rate if, like us, you couldn't bear to use theirs.So unenjoyable. The lady at Sandakan Backpackers (Idah) could not have been more helpful. We emailed her with lots of questions about trips etc before arriving and she replied promptly with lots of detail. We did our Kinabantagan river trip with Wildlife Expeditions who were excellent. You only need the one night and two day package though. The room was good with an attached shower, but not the cleanest we have seen (chipping paint etc). Not sure why this has such poor ratings, as we stayed here twice with no problems. It isn't the Hilton, but at the same time it is a good, clean, comfortable place to be. It was nice there. Not the most helpful of staff. The linen was just a big piece of toweling but it did the job. I'd stay there again but only after I shopped around first.It was nice there.
