Lifeless hostel, but OK if you want a cheap bed and no disturbances. Facilities could do with a bit of an update.

I stay at Seadragon every time I visit Brighton and it's always excellent. The staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them and they're really knowledgeable about things that are going on in the city. The location is also really good, right in the middle of town and opposite the beach. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a relaxed friendly stay in Brighton.

The thing which stands out most for me - more than anything else - is the staff, who always seems to go over and above what is necessary. A clean, friendly and comfortable environment - somewhere I would definitely recommend.

Dirty bedroom, bathroom wasn't cleaned during our stay (a paper towel covered in blood was left next to the sink for 2 days - revolting!), bathroom door didn't lock! Dirty bedding from a guest who had already checked out was left in the dorm room for 2 days. Entire hostel smelt of dirty laundry, the kitchen was disgusting (dirty plates and utensils left on work surface, two huge bins of recycling left in kitchen, sink blocked with old food). Cheap but I won't return.

A couple of girls dressed up for Halloween using 'fake blood' this was cleaned the morning after. The bathroom's and rooms are cleaned daily, your room was cleaned and hovered and checked in the morning. As you are sharing a dorm we can not control other guests leaving items on the floor throughout the day until you checked in in the evening. No sheets were left in the dorm after a 'guest checked out', these were in fact a guest's that's still staying with us, so for whatever reason they did not use the bed that night. We clean our Kitchen as much as possible, we have plenty of signs up asking our guests to remember to wash up but unfortunately some guests choose not to. The recycling bins are not left in the Kitchen, they are for people to use to Recycle.

I found the building very old, dirty in particular at the entrance (both the reception and the side entrance, with urine smell and cigarettes on the floor).Reception never opened in time, and at my arrival I found the dormitory messy: all the supposed free bed seemed occupaied because there were old sheets still there, and staff from other girls around. The kitchen was clean but very old fashion, underground in a bad smelly and humid place. Breakfast was available, but not particular choise.

Hi Valentina, We are so sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us at the Seadragon. We take all our feedback very seriously. Since your stay we have changed our cleaning staff and increased their hours. Our kitchen is in our basement and does have some unique underground bunker areas to sit in. We keep breakfast simple in order to keep costs down, but the kitchen is always open if you fancied cooking up a feast. We also have the amazing 'Bite Me' next door which does great breakfasts, huge sandwiches, salads and great smoothies. Karen Clark Owner

The staff was excellent, the room are big enough, but the hostel lacks of communal areas. I liked the independently run feeling.

Hostel was sensible located for the beach, town & sights, was easily seen from the main road. Good for a help yourself breakfast, and helpful staff.

Great location, close to the main road and seafront. Very noisy beds and terrible matresses though! Staff is very friendly, but almost never there.

Hi Lieke, Thank you for your feedback. We have just tightened all of our bed frames so there should be no noise problem now! Sorry you didnt find our memory foam mattresses comfortable, we usually have to wake people up as they find them so comfy! Our reception does have limited hours so that we can keep costs down and charge cheap prices, Drew lives on site so can usually be found around the hostel even outside our open times.

I didn't expect it to be the Ritz but I did expect it to be clean- the kitchen was disgusting and the bathrooms weren't much better. I found the staff to be impolite and lethargic (on the extremely rare occasions they were at reception). The check-in deadline of 6pm is highly inconvenient. It was difficult to use the common room area as every time I went there it was covered in litter and there was someone passed out on the beanbags! There was no safe storage for bigger bags. Very unimpressed!

Owner Comment (Show)
Hey, Thanks for your comments, a member of staff is on reception between 10am - 2pm and 4pm - 6pm. A phone number for both members of staff is always on the front of the Hostel if you needed assistance. You are able to check in after 6pm, a member of staff will gladly come and meet you and check you in as they both live close by. Our staff are very social and friendly people so I find it hard to believe they were impolite. We can't control where people 'pass out'. The kitchen and bathrooms are checked as much as possible through out the day, the day you stayed happened to be fully booked so we are sorry if other guests left mess behind after staff are on site, there is not much we can do about it till the following morning.
