Emailing was not easy due to language; HOWEVER, we LOVED our stay here, would come again in a heartbeat, and have already suggest to friends. The staff are friendly and helpful; (veggie) food is yummy (do not miss dumplings & tibetan bread). We travel off-piste a lot; this is a top10 Hostel for us. More info on bus times from Qiaotou or shuttle 3x a day (combo w/ other GH) would be useful. Add hooks in rooms. Do not take the high trail past Tina's to Sean's; it is NOT safe above Bamboo Forest.

Very friendly, English-speaking staff but unfriendly owner. Rooms were ok but a bit old and beds just felt dirty. You get what you pay for, though. There are a lot of new guest houses opening in the area that I would try next time. Food was great but a little expensive!

Unfortunately this hostel is located at the main road like most of the others therefore it is noisy during the day and early nights. Later in the night there is no more traffic. A better alternative is the halfway hostel with a really atmospheric location. Although Sean s is said to give excellent trekking instructions we got only the typical tourist information you can find in every travel guide. The room we stayed in was clean and cosy and compared to other hostels really cheap (shared bath).

My family and I had a great time at SGH it’s such a warm friendly environment. Rooms clean and tidy with new bathrooms. The common areas are spacious with a great roof top patio which is great to socialise with fellow travels. If you have children or those not quite as up to hiking you can ask Sean to arrange a donkey to take the strain. Make sure you take time to chat with Sean, he has many interesting stories. I highly recommend SGH and would stop there again!

Stunning views from our window. The food was all cooked by one very talented girl who was incredibly obliging and friendly. Nice outdoor decking to enjoy food and chill out.
