Lovely hostel within 20 mins from the ferry port and bus station. Free chocolate cake and ice-cream is a definite winner! But no locks on any of the rooms and my iPod went missing during my stay :(

The lodge was ok, kitchen/lounge was busy, not much surface space left to make food or sit down and eat(depends on time i guess) Room wasn't great, bed not very comfy had a big lump in the middle of it. Duvet was like a lumpy sheet. Only one socket in a four bed dorm and the heater had to be plugged in to it too. Room could do with a good scrub. Didnt use the shower too cold. Ok for 1 night.

It was a lovely stay for the one night I was there. I got a pick up straight from the ferry terminal so I didn't have to carry my heavy rucksack and when I got there there was a fire and free chocolate pudding with ice cream. Which kept me very happy. There was also all you can eat free breakfast that morning and then drop off into town. Bed was comfy. Overall pleasant stay

Great Hostel. Thought it was very strange how we couldnt rent a towel and was told it was because we didnt have an ensuite in our room (even though we were willing to pay for the towel).

A hostel with lots of character and a homely feel to it. Not many bathrooms and dorms have no room keys or lockers. 10 minute walk into town but character makes up for it. Helpful staff. Free wireless.

Hi, I quite enjoyed staying at the hostel. Mainly because of its character. I found the hostel to be clean and well managed. I would recommend the hostel to others and would certainly stay there again. Pam (Nelson)

Only stayed here one night and arrived late, but I was picked up which was a massive bonus. This place seemes all right and would have stayed longer if I didn't have to be somewhere else. There was no key to the room, which was not a problem for my stay, but I would have been a bit concerned if I was staying longer. They do drop offs too, always appreciated. Would probably stay here again.

Sequoia Lodge Backpackers is probably the best hostel I've been to while travelling in New Zealand for five months. There are not many backpackers for these price that include internet, free jacuzzi and delicious chocolate pudding! Definitely recommend it.

great stays, good arrangement for a booked stay arriving after office is closed, need more clean dry tea towels in the kitchen- there's never enough in any hostel anywhere!

Everything was kept very clean and there was a very friendly vibe throughout. I felt very comfortable here and did not want to leave. The chocolate pudding every night made the stay even more superb!

Somewhat far away from the city centre - but I would go there again. The bizarre interior is a sight in its own right. When you"re coming by bus from the north (from where else?), do not go to the last stop (museum) - hop off in Tay street.

me & my son enjoyed our stay very much, because they have the rugby ball, frisbee, basket ball, etc & the important thing they serve ice cream & hot choc pudding every night for free.

Great place. Cozy and feels like home. Wonderful pudding at 8pm...this sets this hostel apart and makes it better than other hostels where you are just a number.

The staff were real helpful and polite. The atmosphere was great-friendly, open and easy to meet people. Definitely worth the short 10 minute walk to/from town.

Only spent one night here but it was a pleasant one. Positives included the pretty grounds, the laid back, peaceful atmosphere, the free pick up from the ferry port and the delicious chocolate pudding! Only negative were the small kitchen and the dorm door constantly being left open, didn't feel too secure. But overall we enjoyed our stay and would come back again.
