THE WORST HOSTEL 1. NO RECEPTION! 2 hours to check in. A girl sleeping there, who did not speaks English, answered our knocks at the door and called her "boss" (the owner of the hotel) on her mobile. Terrible. 2. NO SECURITY! It is in a building and the rooms are in different places. Accessible to everyone. As there is no reception, we could'n have a key for the locker room. 3. BAD LOCALIZATION. Singapore has an amazing transport system. Chinatown is dirty with rude people. DONT STAY THERE

The above review has resulted in practically no booking through Hostel World since it appeared on the internet in February, 2014. It is time for this to be removed, as the comments were racist and unjust.

It's most convenience location and quite place to stay in Singapore's most popular place. Just right below the Hostel a 24 hrs. convenience store for drinks and snacks. Always my choice to stay in this Hostel.

Not in the real hostel, some chambers on a supermarket near a parking. There was nobody there, we had the phone the reception (the hostel is somewhere else??) A lot of beds but all without people, sometimes strange people passed by... Not really dirty, just very old, a lot of noise of the pipes

We have taken in this guest, although renovation was going on. Really apologise for his stay within an empty hostel under servicing during the first week of September, 2013.

I stayed at the NO 'Service World' on Chin Swee Road. The hostel was on the second floor of a partially deserted dirty industrial/residental block with a fabulous view of car park. The hostel was more like a scummy council studio flat. The shower/toilet/kitchen/reception is the same room. It was unmanned by no member of staff for my stay. And for 2 nights i had the place to myself... though there was a 'family' who i thought may have lived there also in the next room. Awful stay.

On the day the guest stayed, some renovation was going on; hence she had the place to herself in a quiet room. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at service world. The staff and owner (Andrew) were very accommodating and friendly. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The room had great aircon and a fan. Breakfast was help yourself, whatever time you required it and consisted of toast and coffee. The location was fantastic, right in the heart of Chinatown, with supermarket underneath and mrt station a 2 minute walk away. Overall fantastic value for money.

The bed is quite firm and good, so you can expect a good night's sleep after a long day travelling around Singapore. The staff is attentive to you, so you won't be left out in the cold. Cleanliness could be better at the kitchen-bathroom area though, as the things were messy there. Overall, it's ok. Don't expect too much.

Absolutely phenomenal place to stay. The owner Andrew makes this hostel stay worthwhile. One of the nicest, most genuine guys there is. He will go out of his way to make sure you have the best stay and best time possible in Singapore. Location is in Chinatown close to the MRT, large shops and plazas. Small dorms are key with few beds yielding more space. Price hard to beat. Overall, fantastic place to stay in Singapore.

This hostel should be for those who have very limited budget or who cannot find somewhere else better. Not recommend for female as they will not be happy as there's nothing to enjoy. However, the security and staff is good. Location, and facility is just fair.

This guest was mistaken. Although the hostel is small, we still have two staff members working in rotation up to midnight. Although the staff office is locked, that does not mean no staff is on duty. Just phone in or knock on the office door to get attention. You cannot expect staff members mingling with you near your dorm beds, attending to your needs. This is a backpackers hostel where lodgers are expected to serve themselves. Period.

The dorm is just a room in a family apartment. The breakfast is pretty poor and there isnt even knives to spread the jam on the bread. Aircon is good. WiFi speed is moderate, not high speed as claimed. Not particularly welcoming, and as for no eating or drinking in the room - seriously! Pretty average all up.

Owner Comment (Hide)
For just S$20-00 per bed, this guest expects just too much, especially his remarks about the breakfast not being as sumptuous as he likes. So, 6 mbps for the internet access is not high enough for him, and he could not find a knife to spread the jam, although there are lots of tea-spoons, table-spoons and a few knives in the kitchen. So, he wants to take his food and drinks within the sleeping area within the dorm itself, when there is a kitchen and tables for him to take his breakfast. Surely, his mother would have raised objections if he did that at home.

really needed a place to stay for the night and i found this place easily in chinatown. was a bit cramped but for the price you can't argue. helpful staff

The only pros: It is clean and you can sleep there. Cons: They try to stuff as much as possible on the small space available. There is only one toilet which also serves as one of the two showers. The dorms are only seperated by thin walls which stop in a hight of about 2m. Thus, they are anyway connected and whenever someone switches on the light, you will see it in the other dorm as well. Summary, go somewhere else if possible. I switched to feel at home in SG and I am happy now.

Owner Comment (Hide)
It was a regret that we could not place this guest and his family of four in beds adjacent to one another, but they are placed within the same dorm with 6 beds. This apparently caused some unhappiness, and he decided to cancel his booking of many nights. When told that he would have to pay for one night's stay as compensation, he became annoyed; hence this type of rhetoric. We have a toilet and a bathroom and he distorted the facts. Two dorms are inter-connected and he complained about other people in the other room switching on the lights; he forgot that he was in a dorm and sharing with two other guests as well. We regret that the switching on of lights by other guests affected his little children, but surely within a backpackers dorm, this sort of thing could not be fully avoided. Perhaps , he should not have picked a backpackers hostel for his chidlren to stay in. We humbly apologise for any discomfort caused to the little children. .

This hostel is clearly one of the best deal/place in KL. You better book before, because at the time I was there, they were full every day.
