It is much more than a hostel. Very nice and well located. Close to subway line 8 . Nice people and helpful. Thanks.

This hostel is full of character, on an interesting building and part of a cool street, but the location in relation to the rest of Shanghai isn't great, the walk to the metro was a tad too long, and taxi drivers had trouble knowing where to drop us directly to the hostel. Skip the breakfast and don't settle for a ground floor room as the place is noisy quite late into the night. Our room flooded after a shower, smelt bad too! The staff, though, spoke good English and were helpful.

Hostel is bit out of the way and the directions from the hostel world page just barely helped us find the place. In China good directions are really necessary. The place it self looks nice but the price is just a bit lower than a hotel right downtown. Lot of taxi drivers could not find the place with just address.

originally booked a 4 person dorm, but one roommate was such a nightmare that decided to switch to a private room, which was REALLY nice. the public showers aren't the cleanest, but definitely aren't the worst I've seen either. The staff are fairly helpful and the food and drinks were a little expensive, but pretty tasty. One day, the staff left dog poop on the floor for a long while. maybe they were waiting on a cleaning lady? Fairly close, you can get great street food/beer for cheap.

Hostel is ok, the double room was small but good, location is not too central, but has some good bus and subway connection. (10 min of walking) Be careful of what the staff wants to sell you, e.g. they offered us some hard sleeper tickets for soft sleeper price, or wanted to send us by taxi, instead of recommending us the bus (a lot cheaper and fast enough) Pretty high restaurant prices (as soon as you see the kitchen), poor wifi connection and pretty noisy rooms on the first floor.

Sorry for the unsatisfied service. But I think maybe you have some misunderstand on us. Every time we help guests buy tickets with clear declaration for adding fees. Recommending transportation by thinking of your convience. So we try our best to do things for every guest. And hope you can get a nice trip. Also thanks for your comment. Welcome to Koala next time.

Very nice hostel with more of a hotel look to it. Staff is quite helpful and speaks very decent English. It's a quick metro ride to the Bund and the Old City, but the neighborhood itself is quite nice! Very cute little cobblestone street that it's on! Only complaint is that the private rooms are quite small--other than that, it's really lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Not really fun in any way. Food overpriced and the Internet connection was terrible. Was incredibly noisy there for an 'out of the way' hostel. Building works goin on whilst we were there and still paid full price, was woken up at 6 am whilst they took the scaffolding down around the building. I'm sure it would be nice if you wanted to escape from the inner city but not what we were looking for.

I really liked the location! the street is very fancy and is close to shops during the day and street food vendors at night. It is actually a good deal for the breakfast and drinks at the bar are a lot cheaper than any other bar thanks to the discount they give you. The staff was very nice and even more helpful than the airport itself. The only thing that this place needs is hooks to hang your clothes in the bathroom. And some restroom doors don't close.

Stayed twice, August '11 and again in September. Big ups for being once of the cleanest places in town. The food is good and decently priced. The Alcohol is varied and if you are a guest there, very reasonably priced (40% off drinks) The internet is a bit sluggish at times, but not a big deal. The location is great, step outside and you're in once of the most genuine parts of Shanghai - Market, Street food, parks and away from all the big buildings. Great place to meet other travelers.

Shared toilets were pretty bad, at least they could have repaired locks in there

A great hostel in a cool building. Excellent value for money, clean, helpful english speaking staff! Nice cafe in the hostel offers discount to guests which is an added bonus. Close to metro station near centre of town. Happy stay!

Good albeit quiet hostel. The staff is incredible, extremely helpful and fun to have a chat with. It's just a really nice hostel only disadvantage would be that it's not really lively, there is not that much fun to be had except if you meet the right people.

This is a great hostel. Not only is the building beautiful but the surrounding area is great too. It’s a very short walk to the metro which allows you to quickly get to any part of Shanghai. There’s a good night street food market very close that sells delicious food. The rooms are nice and the staff are very helpful. The hostel has more of a hotel feel with a lovely restaurant on the first/.ground floor. I would recommend it to anyone.

The food was really really good, its about 3 blocks to the subway, and the staff were all very helpful and willing. I didn't see any advertisements for events or anything which is why I marked fun as 'good.' We had a great stay and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

HI; I loved the location and everything about Koala, but I have to wonder why there seems to be no one to clean up the bathrooms! We came in around midnight and the bathrooms had water all over the counters and things did not feel or smell clean. The rooms are definitely small. but it does encourage one to get out and enjoy the sitting/dining/visiting areas out front! If you can hire someone to keep up on the bathrooms it will boost your rate to 100%!
