The directions to the hostel are not very good. It is suggested you print out the directions to the hostel in Chinese before you arrive in Shanghai.

Not easy reviewing this place. I had to change dorm because of an all night washing machine next doors. Otherwise the dorms are clean and good. But the showers are not!, Wet floors and no good clothing hangers. The dining hall is really really nice and the staff is really sweet, but.. they lack experience. They got confused about everything. The place is very cheap though and overall I like the place. But they need an experienced tough manager that can get the routines and staff working!

Koala Garden is in a lovely area of Shanghai. Charming decor and a quaint cafe give this hostel a great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. For a unique dining experience, dine like the locals at the nearby and incredibly cheap street market close to the hostel on the way to Dongbaoxing Road subway station.

This place was more a hotel than a hostel. Very nice for recovering, the rooms are superclean and very nice. This was also one of the best bathrooms we had in China. The district in which the hostel is located is also great. It is a part of old Shanghai with a lot of markets and tiny places to eat something. The street was recently renovated and features Art deco buildings.

Beautiful place to stay in Shanghai. 4th stop on metro line8 from people square. Nice dorm rooms with wifi in the room as well. Food is pricy but dozens of alternatives around the corner. Later checkout without paying a full extra day was not possible unfortunately but all in all a good experience!

We had great time there. Friendly english speaking staff. Convenient location in the city, in the beautiful cultural street called DuonLu with its specific atmosphere. I recommend you to stay there. Thanks a lot!

Great place to stay very nice hostel clean and friendly staff that helped alot, not many food options in the area and hard to socialize with other backpackers as there was a cafe/restauraunt downstairs and no one in my dorm spoke english, maybe it was just my bad luck.

Best place I have ever stayed at - extremely great value for money, super helpful staff who are proficient in English, and although it is located away from the direct centre of Shanghai, it is still on a metro-line so transportation is super convenient. 5 out of 5, hands down.

A lovely hostel with beautiful design and the most friendly staff. I came for 3 nights and have been here a week. Several friends also booked rooms and were glad to stay here.

This hostel is full of character, on an interesting building and part of a cool street, but the location in relation to the rest of Shanghai isn't great, the walk to the metro was a tad too long, and taxi drivers had trouble knowing where to drop us directly to the hostel. Skip the breakfast and don't settle for a ground floor room as the place is noisy quite late into the night. Our room flooded after a shower, smelt bad too! The staff, though, spoke good English and were helpful.

For my purpose, the location was ideal and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Although the lobby was lively, the noise always died down by 11pm. My biggest complaint is the late night smell of cigarette smoke and foul sewer odor coming from the drain in the bathroom. The mildew smell was so disgusting in my first room, I asked to be moved. In my second room, the sheets looked like they had not been washed prior to my arrival. If they emphasized cleanliness, it would be a top spot!
