The staff was great, and the general atmosphere was very pleasant. In the early morning, birds and monkeys could be heard from your bed. Very cool. The sheets and pillow cases could have been cleaner, which is an easy fix.

This hostel was amazing. The owner met us at the bus stop to make sure that we walked safely to the hostel, he gave us a tour and checked us in with no issues. The facilities were beautiful and we felt extremely safe. The only issue was that our fan was a bit broken and the showers were a little dirty. Overall an amazing experience and I would DEFINITELY go back if I were to be in Cahuita again!

I stayed for three nights... Very basic... The four dorm beds were very uncomfortable but for the price I expected nothing else... The communical area was nice hammocks and chairs... The kitchen area was good to clean enough for cooking... The staff wet very friendly and helpful with organising else where to go... The locational right besides the bus stop and minutes walk from town and the beach... The only problem really was the dog and barking at five am... I would recommend for basic hostel.

Really nice and laid back owners, very conveniently located, very cool atmosphere, lots of hammocks. No hot water, but otherwise wonderful.

Shangri La'Hostel is one of the best hostels I've stayed in Costa Rica, I think one of the best, the two Italians that are there are very friendly and also the Lord of Costa Rica that will help with the work in the hostel. Certainly, if I come again to Cahuita will stay there, location is very good, very close to the bus station, I love Sangrila '

For $9 a night, you definitely get what you pay for. The chilled out vibe of this hostel was fine, but it lacked some of the amenities a pricier place might offer. The female dorm room didn't have a lock on the door, which really disturbed me. It did have lockers you can keep your valuables in. Cahuita is a sleepy town, so I don't imagine they have much crime, but it still made me uncomfortable. If you're traveling with others, book a private room.

Staff was super nice. I was super impressed when I got off the bus from San Jose in Cahuita and someone called my name. Wow, was I ever surprised! A staff member actually came to the bus station (which is right next door to the hostel) to greet me since I had made a reservation.

Owner is cool and there was always a friendly group of people in the common area. Awesome dogs (Blanca and Scooby Doo ?); probably not the place for you if you hate dogs ;) Pillows were a little moldy, but as we learned on our 4 week CA trip, it's hard to air dry things in the Caribbean humidity. You're staying in paradise for about $10/night so ... Suggestion: a secure staff-only place to store passports, cell phones, etc. Most other hostels can hold these for you while you're out.
