Located in Red light district, location is convenient. But may be also due to this, the bathroom in the 4 beds ensuite is really small, can barely turn around in the shower, the room space is also limited too, but there are seperate lockers for each bed. Generally speaking, it's ok, not great...

Excelent hostel =) Nice staff, good location (close to everything) and a good vibe! Really the best for those who want more than drugs in Amsterdam!

Exactly what I was looking for except that the bed hadn't been cleaned when I got there as it had rubbish in it and the pillow case was dirty. I arrived at about 5pm so it really should have been fixed by then.

the portion breakfeast was not my favorite loved the organized trips and the attitude of the staff no locks on the rooms were strange and too crowded rooms

I stayed in 4 female bedroom. If you want a calm stay I'd definitely recommend this hostel. It's a Christian hostel, but they do not force you to do anything. I'm a Muslim yet I had no problems while staying in Shelter City whatsoever. Staff were very friendly and professional. Very clean, warm and safe hostel. My only complaint would be about the internet as it was not possible to connect neither with the stationary PCs nor with my laptop. The speed was incredibly slow, otherwise all was perfect

The room I stayed in was dirty and smelled bad (though it was warm, even hot maybe). And these other reviewers who say that they don't force you to participate in any christian events or you to be a christian, on every opportunity the receptionists start a small-talk, but then the talk always leads to the question: do you believe in god, do you read bible etc If you're a christian, it might be a good place to hang out with other christians and participate in the bible discussion rounds they have

I am glad that I chose your hostel to sleep in. I would say that the breakfast could be improved.

Nice location, the staff was friendly. The shower room was a little cold and I was worried about the security since we don't have a room key. It will be better if I was able to use kitchen for supper. The breakfast was excellent in comparison with the price for stay.

Its a christian hostel so i guess theres not going to be an abundance of good atmosphere, the place attracts alot of the older generation who made me feel a little uncomfortable with their weirdness. a good place to drop ur bags, get out and enjoy amsterdam, but for the money there is alot better places out there!

A clean and efficient hostel. Staff were helpful and the facilities were exactly as described on their website. Would use again and would recommend it if you were looking for a quiet little oasis right in the centre of the city.

Yes, it's a Christian Hostel, but it was still one of the best I stayed in. The free breakfast was amazing. They cooked it for you right there on the spot. They had this card thing that you had to show to the person at the front desk before they let you into the hostel which was a little annoying but made me feel safer. They also had a resident cat named Oliver. The only strange thing was that you couldn't charge things overnight because the power point only worked if the light was on. annoying.

Shelter City is a Christian hostel so if you are after a party, it might not be the place for you. Great location right near the red light district, plenty of restaurants & easy walking to alot of sights. Breakfast was included & pretty good - choice of hot or cereal. Security very thorough with vouchers to enter & lockers. Wifi was pretty dodgy.

Probably one of the worst hostels I've stayed in....and I've stayed in over 30 hostels. The place just has a weird vibe. It attracts some pretty strange and creepy people. It's not very clean, and the showers are woeful. Wouldn't do it again.

Very nice place to stay. Drug free, smoke free and very homely atmosphere. More electricity points inside the bigger dorms would really help. You will have a good stay here.
