excellent hostel. great location. the courtyard layout has a great atmosphere with birds chirping and plenty of lounge space. the restaurant is also quite good. I heard some guests complain about noise from the night club below the hostel but I had no problems in the dorm room.

Very good looking hostel in nice location just next to city walls, close to bell and drum towers. Free pick up is also an advantage (it works).

This was my first youth hostel experience and it was excellent byond my expectation. I love the hosts there and I also love the guests there. The beautiful girl are so kind, and Steven you are always smile with awesome memory skills. And I highly recommand yard 3 level 3 rooms, although it is a little far away from receiption, but there is a good space for people gathering together. We had fun though the whole night until 5 AM to see friends leave. Thank you, very much!

Easy to find, on the bus route and next to the wall (South Gate). Within walking distance of the Muslim Quarter and the Bell and Drum towers. There can be quite a party atmosphere in the 3rd Courtyard, so if you want quiet you should ask for one of the other courtyards. Overall a really nice hostel.

Staff was totally excellent. One staff woman who was off duty went with me to a Korean All You Can Eat to explain the details of the menue as all Chinese. Great help finding places and booking tickets. Clean room. Quiet. Lots of translations into Chinese of museum and sites locations and directions with a smile. Cafe expensive, mostly Western food. We were in basement but no toilets in basement. Some guests get really drunk. Would stay again. Would send friends. Great place! Robert Wilkinson

The bar is very, very expensive. Better to avoid it.

This hostel is a great place to stay in Xi'an. It is in a great location, the restaurant makes delicious food, the rooms are clean, the staff are friendly, and the pub downstairs is a really fun place. The only downside to the hostel is the lack of Western toilets.

This hostel was in a great location right beside the south gate which meant all the main sites were on the doorstep. As a solo traveller I found it very easy to meet people, there were several courtyards to chill out in as well as a seperate restaurant and bar. My only gripe was the water was a little cold in the bathroom near my dorm and there was a lot of dust in the ground under/around my bunk. However it really is a great hostel with great character and I would definitely recommend it!

The lounge areas were very dark, had poor lighting, I didnt like that. Toilets could have been kept in a better state. The staff at reception were excellent though, very helpful :)

Shuyuan is a hostel for young people. Too much noise for me at night and very poor lighting in rooms. There was a smell from the drains in the bathroom but this smell was also outside in the area. The Cafe has great food and the staff at reception were very helpful.
